Canada is now the first non-European country to be granted a membership in SAFE. This is a gamechanger program that means Canada can rearm our Canadian Armed Forces members more effectively and scale up our defence industries with more contracts overseas.

Great piece from @dsquareddigest.bsky.social, which touches on one of the big theories for why English-speaking countries do especially badly at housebuilding:

Adversarial and litigious common law systems (Anglo) vs judge-led civil law systems elsewhere.

"Voter ID" is not about the ID itself. It’s about controlling ACCESS to the ID...charging high fees and closing DMV/passport offices actively prevents people from getting or renewing their IDs. Do you guys not see that he's trying to control who gets to vote?

Which is why the UK and the EU can't just say "Trump will be gone in three years and it'll be back to normal". With the mad Electoral College, the gerrymandering, the Citizens United ruling, the malign influence of billionaires etc., there's a decent change that the US elects another psychopath.
"Look at the behavior of some of the individuals who are best-positioned to lead the Republican Party in a post-Trump world, and you’ll see figures like Vance, Rubio, Cotton, and Lee offering full-throated defenses of Trumpism on everything from the murder of Renee Good to taking Greenland."

I'm always amazed at the economic vitality of Utrecht: Businesses are thriving, cafes are full, streets are clean, buses run on time.

The main street through town holds buses, service vehicles, and people -- walking, on bike & cargo bikes.

Want a city that works? Invest in people, not their cars.

We must speak plainly about the agenda Elon Musk & other MAGA leaders are pushing. It’s white nationalism.

There’s no room for Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native, Jewish or all other Americans in Musk’s monocultural vision.

Multiculturalism is superior. We can’t allow Musk & others to end it.

On almost everything – fraud, polarisation, radicalisation, misinformation – evidence suggests that over 60s are in much more urgent need of online protection and education than teenagers.

But that issue gets zero political attention, and is a total non-starter. Nothing good will come of it.
This was a minor story on London news this morning - but suspect is a real cautionary (and alarming) tale of an older man getting radicalised online.

Since the government is about to introduce a social media ban for under-16s based largely on vibes – and Jonathan Haidt's shitty book – in the hopes it boosts its popularity (it won't), I'll re-up this.

If we're banning under-16s, why not over-60s?
