Heyo! I'm realizing I didn't ever really make a basic little thread for people coming by the ol' profile. Time to fix that!

Hullo, I am Celeste! I am a reader and writer of literary speculative fiction from the US. I also am quite outspoken about a lot of things, both writing and political. 🧵(1/9)

Yeah, that ice cream machine is broke. No idea when it'll get fixed, sorry.

(I feel your sentiment on a spiritual level, lmaoooo)

Like it’s weird the way folks are separating the “optics” and the silliness from …

These people showed up for their neighbors and are using racial privileges the way previous protests have begged them to

While also honoring the protests methods taught to the by the “left” being mocked

I sent ARCs to like. 4 people before Mercy's release. One never replied, and two read through it, but then they loved it so much and talked it up enough that it had a pretty explosive start. It is SO important (shoutout Grapie and Zack fr)

by far the most effective marketing and publicity effort by my publisher was getting advance copies into the hands of the right early readers

This. Also, this applies to lefties: we aren't antifascist because we're anticapitalists. We're anticapitalists because we're antifascist.

If the foundation isn't built on destroying authoritarianism, you can't truly be antifascist (or anticapitalist, for that matter.)

Your Nationalism is not Antifa.

Winston Churchill was not Antifa.
General Patton was not Antifa.
Your favorite Nationalist was not Antifa.
That’s literally the point.

rt to spread awareness.

Stop writing mutant stories rooted in OLDER concepts.

Mutants represent modern struggles and issues, too.

Girl finds she can make bulletproof glass at school shooting. Humans protect recently activated mutant from cops. SOMETHING!

Don't just callback to classics. Relevancy matters.

What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷

Thursday draws nearer and I still need to get as close to the $380.55 remaining for a medical follow up that will help me chart the course of surgery for next year.

$5 has at least been collected as well.
Anything closer to goal helps.

I don't think enough people get that the last offramp from Trumpist authoritarianism without massive pain, suffering, and changes to how we live and govern ourselves was last November. We passed it. Now we get to do this the hard way.

Woke up to a short story acceptance in my inbox. Woohoo!

And Fudge Stripes let me reach into the crate to pet him when I was getting his water dish to clean and refill.

It's a good morning.

Chronic incuriosity will do that, yeah.

one of my takeaways from this great piece is that weiss just doesn’t…sound like an intelligent person? or at least, not someone who has thought even a little bit about how and why they think the things that they do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gieT...

In the spirit of the holiday yesterday, my brain reminded me today that America (the continent) is named after Amerigo Vespucci. And I humbly petition that we rename it Vespucciland. Because it's more fun to say, and it would piss off conservatives with fragile egos because it "sounds kinda gay."

Glad to see Sky Harbor on this list, even if only to retain the slogan of "America's Friendliest Airport" /hj

(Seriously, good job for this one, Phoenix. A rare Arizona W.)

Tbh, this kinda speaks to why I loathe the whole "cozy" thing in fiction, but couldn't find a good reason to describe why.

Cheers!

It's not an issue exclusive to romance but that's the actual issue with "cozy"/"comfort" fare becoming more and more mainstream: unchallenging stories are normative ones, and deviation registers as a discomfort, a threat to a palatable, marketable, relatable package of Stuff Happens To Normal Folks.

Also, your take is correct and true. W unhinged take.

Yeah, anyway, I hope peeps are more reasonable for you, lmao

I said something similar, and uh... Let's just say that it's possible to fly too close to the sun on this one.

I wish you godspeed, because good fucking LORD lmao

My addendum to this: when an author DOES show magic, the more tied to the themes and ideas the book is grappling with (the book HAS themes and is grappling with ideas... right?) the better.

So much magic (and worldbuilding in general) sucks because it isn't built to serve theme.

Okay fine: many readers do not know how to read books

That's fine

many writers don't know how to write them either

They think it's just words
