This one is also my avatar, Sheesha, my whippador girl:
A black whippador girl dog on a light brown dirt shoreline with calm light brown water behind her. She's facing the camera and only her two front legs are visible, and she's frolicking, with her front legs off the ground. He ears are up and a bit askew, showing white hair inside of them. Her name is Sheesha.

A somewhat related corrolary - "what's the best argument I can make against something I believe passionately"

always a good exercise to start doing

A lot of people would do well to ask themselves about their own political, social and historical beliefs "but why do I /want/ to believe this"

Oh great Donald Trump is running the self-checkout at this shop in Europe now, too?
A sign below a card machine says “kindly split bills for amounts exceeding 50 euros. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

I blocked this idiot, but I thought this stupidity deserved to be preserved via screencap.

“Writing for children makes you a sellout who has abandoned the trans community. So does not being as loudly and visibly trans as possible in every waking moment. Being happy means you aren’t really queer.”

Anybody who thinks writing for children is bad has a terminal case of galaxy brain and needs to get off the internet before their brains start leaking out their ears.

Constitutional amendments that nullify everything that allowed Trump to exist, use power as they have, and make it clear this was wrong; also should declare the Trump Admin an insurrection; and exiling of large numbers from Govt—elected and Admin. As in, if you joined ICE, you cannot serve in Govt.

which is why we need to think about indirect but cumulative and sustainable ways to both hobble the perpetrators in the present and culturally irradiate them for posterity

A semantic point, I suppose, but the word "homeland" was not part of US govt nomenclature until after 9/11 & should be expunged.

To me it has the whiff of dystopia if not Nazism. Its roots are not deep in the culture.

Those whose jimmies would be rustled by its loss NEED their jimmies rustled imo.

So Steven Miller is obviously the president. Trump is yet again, second in command, kind of, more like the comms director.

Does he have any companies or anything that we can protest in front of? Cause that worked really well with kicking Musk out of the government and maybe it would work here?

Hey, so I’m having some chronic health issues so I haven’t been able to post videos and I’m really sorry about that and I hope I will be able to post the video on Sun because I miss Doomerella too. But if not, please make sure to check out the posts on Substack. That is where I put the most detail.

have you watched doctor sleep? it's both a great sequel and a love letter to kubrick, and squares the book/movie differences brilliantly

I used a GIF from it the other day, and was reminded that Nicholson's delivery of "Light of my life" is one of the four or five greatest line readings in all of film.

movie!Jack has a shorter arc (from contemptuous asshole to murderous asshole) but Nicholson is so damn good

and Duvall is deeply underrated, people mock her but she plays the hell out of a basically decent person who believed in and loved her husband, and was betrayed

im rewatching The Shining for the millionth time and while i think the book does some things better (getting us into Jack's head) the book is a story about a good man swallowed by ghosts and Kubrick's story is about a family annihilator, and thus much, much scarier

"Both sides" is the dying yelp of a former "cool kid" trying to regain cachet as it becomes increasingly obvious they are incapable of understanding what's going on.

It is the antithesis of journalism, which ought to be entirely about discovering what's going on.

I saw myself as maybe all in for J.B. Pritzker

But I am losing faith, rapidly.

Police state fascism in America is bigger than Trump. It's backed by Democrats just like Republicans. And it's not going anywhere

Note: it's not even curfew yet.

State police just started pushing people off the business park corner. Here in the road, a brave group of demonstrators are attempting to hold their line.

"I'm a journalist, it's not my job to call people in Pritzker's office to ask for a statement about what's happening and who ordered it or ask experts what Pritzker could conceivably do to stop this...

...no no, it's my job to speculate publicly that Pritzker doesn't mean what he says!"

of course. And i get that. But I’m not a partisan, I’m a journalist. My job is to hold people— including journalists— to the highest moral standards
