Iron is the limiting nutrient at the very base of the ocean food web. It enables photosynthesis, is essential for all marine life and enables significant carbon capture. Fisheries, whaling and pollution reduce the available iron for these vital processes.

Paying the Iron Price
Iron is a critical part of life in the oceans. It's a limiting nutrient for primary production which sits at the base of the food chain and absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere. Should we be adding more?

Just by following some news from Vancouver and British Columbia in general, I am impressed.

Folks don't seem to like the oil pipeline, First Nations are thinking about forests in a new way, and the provincial capital is applying active mobility measures.

That's standing out in North America.

In Denmark if you're left-leaning or young, you're much more likely to understand that wolves are positive for ecosystems. If you're right-wing or older, the chances diminish substantially.

Why 40 wolves have shaken Danish politics.

Next confirmation came in that we are heading towards a neurotoxic ocean: highly toxic Pseudo nitschia species are spreading from pole to pole

A neurotoxic ocean means a neurotoxic hydrological cycle

Its as easy as that on a water planet!

First rule on a water planet never fuck the #oceans...
Now the confirmation came in that highly toxic Psuedo nitzschia species are distributed from pole to pole (1).

They produce the neurotoxin domoic acid a highly potent neurotoxin which is highly persistent in the water column

The danger is that we get a neurotoxic hydrological cycle as these toxins are mixed into the air. For example in one event frogs could have been killed by neurotoxic rain on an Island in the Gulf of Mexico

Its an important precondition that we get a neurotoxic ocean with toxic species spreading also across the open oceans.

When nutrient deposition events of dust and wildfire soot will increase with marine heatwaves leading to food webs that retain nutrients and particular matter in the upper water column such a development could fuel toxic blooms of Pseudo nitschia across the global oceans (1).

Conclusions

Our findings confirm that temperature is a key driver of domoic acid (DA) contamination and support the notion that toxin-producing Pseudo-nitzschia species are nearly ubiquitous across global ocean basins. Thus, virtually the entire ocean is potentially at risk if climate change promotes increases in Pseudo-nitzschia growth and toxicity. Global models warn that increasingly prolific and toxic bloom events must be expected under a continuously warming ocean.

We believe that in the wealthiest city in the wealthiest nation in the history of the world, working people deserve a dignified life.

And to the billionaires who think this movement is an existential threat to their corruption of our democracy: you're right.

Labour ministers met fossil fuel bribe agents.

We need to stop referring to people who bring and pay bribes to politicians as “lobbyists”.

They’re paying bribes.

Whether this type of corruption is legal or not is irrelevant. It’s grotesque and does not belong in a democracy.

At last a local council in the UK is leading where national government is not

Taxing vehicles on weight - and thereby size - is at least some counterweight against vehicle bloat, and the damage that bigger, heavier vehicles inflict on road, pedestrian and cycle space

Hydro electric dams are extremely destructive and harmful to nature.

They flood natural areas that would capture carbon but now don’t, and also dry out other areas that would have been carbon sinks turning them into carbon sources

And solar PV is much less expensive and much less harmful to nature

As humans heat the planet, largely by burning fossil fuels, more people are dying in extreme heat. Their deaths are often recorded as accidents or attributed to other conditions that heat exacerbates. This piece tells the tragic stories of people who died preventably in extreme heat in Phoenix, AZ.
