My feature on how musicians deal with the American medical system is here, with artists detailing their struggles to get decent care for cancer, gender-affirming care, chronic illnesses, substance abuse, and catastrophic injuries. This one is important to me, so please take a few mins to read it!

Seven musicians open up about navigating the complications and cruelty of American health care: ‘You realize the whole system is broken, religion is broken, government is fucking broken — you’re on your own.’

maybe it's a metaphor for his godly nature. Either way, I'm glad the show lightened up a bit. It was a real downer at first.

Test audiences must’ve pointed out that there’s no way he could drink that much and make it to work, let alone run things.

Just a reminder that Banned Books Week isn’t about selling more copies of 1984. It’s about keeping authors and teachers and librarians safe and making sure all of us have the freedom to read widely. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

anyway, I'm glad I finally pursued it, even after years of being told I didn't have it because I mostly got good grades and didn't act up. This time I was more determined -- I knew something had to be up after I couldn't focus on using my new chainsaw. Turns out, the skeptics didn't know shit.

getting a legit ADHD diagnosis in your early 40s is a real trip. Certainly a relief to know you’re not simply a weird idiot in certain areas of existence. Wish I’d gotten here sooner but at least I have some funny scars.

So many Philly kids are gonna get puked on tonight. Like way more than usual.

Gorgeously deranged, but how fucking dare you do that to Mr. Met. He’s a goddamn saint!

getting urinated on would be a less humiliating way to lose a rap battle
Over the course of 16 days, the two artists released eight so-called “diss tracks,” with increasingly heated rhetoric, loaded accusations, and violent imagery. The penultimate song of this feud, “Not Like Us”
by Kendrick Lamar, dealt the metaphorical killing blow. The song contains lyrics explicitly accusing Drake of being a pedophile, set to a catchy beat and propulsive bassline. “Not Like Us” went on to become a cultural sensation, achieving immense commercial success and critical acclaim.

Oof, feel better. Buzzfeed once had me try out 20 of them for a review roundup, as I was recovering from wrist surgery. I knew it’d be bad but they paid well. Watch out for the ones with duvet covers.

I've never had an editor decide to let me show my ass and make a fool of myself for clicks. Every time I see an "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back is overrated actually" piece by a 24-year-old I think "there but for the grace of god and good editors go I."

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

This year, it ends in the ALDS.

No joke, wearing goofy outfits may be the most effective way to undermine State propaganda. Let’s see Kristi Noem release a glossy homage to our brave ICE officers kicking the shit out of Spongebob or whatever.

Anyway, @lindseyadler.bsky.social nails it. I gotta get back to the yardwork but hey, look at this dog who escorted @treilly.bsky.social and I on a garden tour. He had a bell on.

seems almost fitting that my last two big NY Mag/Vulture pieces were partly about how the middle class is disappearing from Hollywood and the music world. It feels like we’re all having simultaneous mid-life crises and we’re too broke to shop through them.
