Also, if you're "in bed with flu", it's almost certainly Covid.

After a long pause, I've just done another England Covid & NHS update as we head into the autumn/winter season.

TLDR: we're in a significant Covid wave now, the NHS is stretched, get boosted if you're eligible.

And making theft illegal would “kill” the thieving industry. Good. Make theft illegal again.

Reform narrowly hold a ward where their previous councillor had to resign due to toxic racism allegations, assisted by a split on the left between Labour and the Greens (who have over 50% of the vote here between them).

Do they have a prize for blowing up boats in the Caribbean and then bragging that people who made their livelihood fishing there for generations are now afraid to go out on the water?

The Nobel Peace Prize committee's decision to honour someone who has tirelessly campaigned against dictatorship is both worthwhile and welcome, and objectively very funny.

'When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognize courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist,' the Norwegian Nobel Committee said as it announced Maria Corina Machado as the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.

I am not fearful — I am fearless.

We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights..

So pretty much the opposite of Mr Trump.

Excellent statement in support of Mark Bray, academic freedom, and implicitly antifascism.

This week, our colleague Dr. Mark Bray came under attack by Turning Point USA’s Rutgers chapter for his public scholarship. Rutgers AAUP-AFT and the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union condemn this campaign and stand in solidarity with our colleagues. Read our full statement here: https://loom.ly/BDXasRY

Mark Bray wrote a book on antifascism and was trying to leave the country with his family after being targeted by right-wing operatives and receiving death threats:

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

I sometimes worry I exaggerate the collective madness of our media but the people who cheered Brexit, Boris Johnson & Liz Truss's mini-budget are now applauding Kemi Badenoch's speech. 'Parallell universe' doesn't come close. I suppose her not falling over is a win of sorts for them at the moment.

Reuters photographer Jonathan Ernst noticed that Bondi flipped open a file during the Senate hearing and he zoomed in.

Inside were her crib notes for attacking the senators.

The GOP now practicing Cliff's Notes Fascism

In other words, under oath Bondi was purely a performance.

Tories cutting Stamp Duty is like giving cash to your mates.

And he’ll be very welcome. Though it has been interesting to see a friction in Edinburgh this summer with the legions of American tourists routinely challenged over what the fuck they are doing to the world.

Opinion | Starmer has not prioritised growth, not really. He has done what British governments have been doing for over a decade: prioritising anti-immigration policy and focusing on growth only where it does not interfere with it

Oh Lewis.

You could only say this if you had been in a coma for 15 years.

The Veruca Salt of British Politics just ignores the past, that includes things she has said recently.

Stamp duty was, I confess, a proverbial rabbit. But even doing that magic trick's all a bit George Osborne and inheritance tax c.2007. And don't get me started on that weird, half-self-satisfied, half-slightly-surprised chuckle at her audience's positive reaction whenever she tickled their tummy.

She's nothing if not predictable, is she? I know the Tories aren't keen on anything Green these days, but pretty much all they've done this week is recycle stuff they've been banging on about--for the most part fruitlessly--for the last decade and a half. And today it's "Mickey Mouse" degrees. 🙄

Pritzker: "He wants to militarize major cities because he wants us to get used to the idea of troops on the streets. I believe he's gonna post people outside of polling places and if he needs to in order to control those elections, he'll assume control of the ballot boxes & count the votes himself"
