my dad died yesterday at home next to my mom. it was sudden but not unexpected. here he is getting arrested at an anti-war protest in 1970 in Chicago. he was a history prof who taught me to never give up hope that a better world is possible. i love him and will miss him.

Based on all the social media reports, today may have been the busiest Friday for ICE activity that we’ve seen since this surge started.

With hundreds of police now protecting ICE’s facility for them, presumably ICE is able to deploy more agents to snatch people.

By creating conflict, they let the steam out of the crowd one whack at a time. Folks present will leave, and others will just decide not to show up.
A fixed location protest like this is especially vulnerable to manipulation by law enforcement.

I'm at the scene where ICE abducted multiple people from Lincoln and Foster this morning.

A WGN producer was among the people taken, allegedly because she was among a group of bystanders who tried to intervene. ICE agents hit this car while making their getaway.

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

Part of what's happening now was laid out by Stephen Miller on a podcast with Charlie Kirk in early 2024, then shortly after in an article on Feb 8 from The Atlantic. Trump's court losses only lead to further blurring of the lines between "legal" and overt dictatorial power.

Admins at a school in Berwyn called police yesterday on know your rights volunteers. DHS made a big push into the Berwyn-Cicero-Oak Park area this week. People assumed they'd target schools next. This is like calling cops on Paul Revere.

I saw ICE Barbie on Fox News complaining about DHS agents not being able to find places to eat or use the bathroom in Chicago and maybe I'm being too nice but I think next time she visits she should try Q-Bar in Darien, IL.
