The palpable relief of reading a syntactically awkward student paper nevertheless brimming with ideas they’re trying on after having to consume the stale cardboard generalities of a Chat GPT essay.

I wrote an episode of television in 18 hours, taking into consideration actor availability, daylight shooting hours, standing sets, turnaround times, unit moves, weather cover, budget shortfalls, oh and block shooting with another episode which had already started prep. GenAI can gargle my balls.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Men claim women talk too much, but boy if you get that man on a panel, he will over talk every woman present in the room.

The Jays are so in it - even how they celebrated on the field in the moments after the game showed they’re focused on the work to be done - but I can’t pretend not to love the twisting of the knife. We’ve been cowed by the “mighty Yanks” for so long and it’s amazing to see them let that go.

From @theathletic.com: For years, Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” has been the Yankees’ victory anthem. On Wednesday, the song was used as part of one final twist of the knife for the Blue Jays.
‘Theeee Yankees lose!’ Blue Jays’ Schneider, Guerrero troll N.Y.
Schneider borrowed a lyric from Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" song, and Guerrero did his own take on “theeee Yankees win!" call.

The article Javi is reacting to here claims to quote anonymous showrunners, and at first I was like who the eff is that reporter talking to and then I see he's not a reporter, he's a former Netflix exec who now owns a production company and I doubt he's ever made a show under a WGA contract.

a few years ago i sincerely believed it to be the duty of artists to take these tools and show the world how to use them humanely and respectfully. i don’t believe that any more. every time i have tried i have left the experience frustrated and angry…

The “GPT-5 pass” has gone from curiosity to mandate. Scripts, trailers, pitch decks are all being filtered through an AI model that remembers every draft and forgets what originality looks like. @erikbarmack.bsky.social on Hollywood’s uneasy reset:

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that all these data centers are going into communities that have been historically targeted for exploitation and have the least amount of civic power wielded by the people living there.

If you haven't watched ANDOR yet I recommend you watch ANDOR. You don't have to be a huge STAR WARS fan. It's simply very, very, accidentally relevant to our times.

But balance it out by also watching something fluffy, like GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW or some Nat Geo show about cute baby animals.
