There are some people who seem to see the recovery of ecosystems in a deforested waste as a personal affront. It's about power, and different landscapes reflect the different ways in which power is distributed - or concentrated.

We're gonna need a truth and reconciliation commission and Nuremberg style trials to reckon with all of this evil, and any Dem candidate for office who shies away from a full reckoning in the name of "moving forward as a nation" can get well and truly fucked

It is IMO not possible to operate any kind of meaningful democracy when your national press is a joke and a travesty, but your mileage on that may vary. I think it’s incontestable that it is impossible to govern well and effectively, while being in hock to these pantomime clowns.

“It’s an indication of an end phase, where people turn to rituals and odd beliefs … Then it breaks out in an orgy of violence. Then it stops, but it’s too late.”

😬
Pointed out by my friend @carloshasanax.bsky.social . There's something weird and unsettling about a fairly homogeneous culture spread out across Europe that then collapses into an orgy of genocide.

Piracy is the free market at work—capitalists just don't really believe in the free market. People pay for what they value and don't pay for what they don't.

(FWIW though, get a library card. They'll have everything—digitally too—and it's a meaningful act)
piracy discourse is so exhausting and passe, but i will observe that every truly great collector of physical media I know has a big harddrive of pirated books and movies. you literally cannot have one without the other

As a kid I was insanely lucky enough to have a Transformer G1 Jetfire (tragically, long since lost or charity shopped.) I literally could not understand how the other Transformers weren't this cool.

I know now it's a VF-1 Valkyrie from Macross, but this colorway will always be primary to me

I feel like I *just* posted about it but every time someone says people should promote their book I'm gonna promote my book.

Just imagine adding this wonderful book of essays to your cart of Black Friday whatever. Think how you will cherish the experience of buying and then reading it

Very funny poll because even the AI experts are like "oh yeah, AI will be terrible for people's brains, the environment and democracy... heck, we even basically agree with you that it's bad for the arts. But I *do* think it will benefit me specifically."
It's not this platform. It's all of society that hates AI

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.

We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

Starmer's government redefines "terrorism" to include for the first time civil disobedience and protest.

Then it declares it's scrapping the ancient right to trial by jury (because juries too often acquit protesters).

In a rigged justice system, injustice is assured.
