…but I think Pedro uses them MORE than the other characters, & that leads to some dramatic irony. He sees himself as such an honorable guy, he can’t imagine anyone would lie to him & trick him! And yet, he proposes a few tricks himself: pretending to be Claudio, then making B&B fall in love!

This is the biggest Shakespeare role I have ever played and it’s amazing how much more you understand the longer you sit with the text. Pedro is always saying things like “by my troth,” “i’faith,” “on mine honor.” And yes, those are stock “Shakespearean” phrases…

I’m at Standard Deviant in the Mission, having a cider and trying to learn my lines for the freewheeling “Much Ado” production I will be acting in here in 10 days! I am playing Don Pedro — the Denzel Washington role, for those of you who remember the Branagh movie.

RIP Diane Keaton
My favourite picture of her where everyone else is giving it their best Blue Steel & she looks like she’s just wandered in off the street looking super cool.
She was allowed to wear her own clothes & her wonderful personality shines out.
What a unique talent & human being.

Today I learned that the French equivalent of German’s eierlegende Wollmilchsau (lit. egg-laying wool-milk-sow,” your special unicorn all-in-one solution) is the mouton à cinq pattes (the 5-legged sheep). I love languages.

under most circumstances Portlanders would be very annoyed if you called them normal, but this is an exception

One thing you can do as a patriot to expose the regime’s lies is to take reporters to all of the 99.99% of Portland that is peaceful and normal.

Amanda! Good to find you here, but kinda funny to see this post, b/c as a teen, I assumed my teachers were duty-bound to point out every mistake, no matter how small. Then in my 20s I dated a teacher & he was like “if I did that for every student I’d have no time for anything except grading papers.”

I support free speech, but I also think Bluesky should ban anyone that says eating the lower half of a mermaid is not cannibalism

I don’t care if genetically it’s fish flesh not human, in my book it still counts as cannibalism and I expect this platform to uphold that fact

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

I watched it & I liked it, but I thought Macfadyen was too young & charismatic! He is only 7 years older than Atwell, but canonically the age gap should be much bigger and the other characters should find their romance kind of baffling.

I finally got a chance to write one of my dream assignments, an in depth evaluation of Daniel Day-Lewis, an actor whose achievements and methods cast a long shadow over the field, and whose work is often misunderstood.
