It is frankly strange to be this obsessed with college if you no longer attend one and do not work in education. More people in legacy media need to be told that.

Marwan Barghouti will apparently not be released.
1) Israel keeps him to avoid real negotiations toward two states.
2) Hamas fears he will marginalize their one-state-or-kill butchery.
3) He would quickly replace corrupt PA leaders.
3) Trump clueless about who he is.
No one is actually for peace.

there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

The New York Times also just kind of introduces Turning Point USA as this ambiguous entity without explaining what it is, or detailing any of its dodgy behaviors as a super shady right wing propaganda organization

this kind of generous framing isn't done by accident
NYT: "In the weeks after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, he has become a target of right-wing hate, accused of being a part of the movement he studied. Jack Posobiec, a right-wing influencer, called Dr. Bray a “domestic terrorist professor” on X. The Rutgers chapter of Turning Point USA then circulated a petition accusing Dr. Bray of being an “outspoken, well-known antifa member” and called for him to be fired.

The petition referred to him as “Dr. Antifa.”

“My role in this is as a professor,” Dr. Bray, an assistant teaching professor at Rutgers, said in an interview on Wednesday, hours before his planned departure. “I’ve never been part of an antifa group, and I’m not currently. There’s an effort underway to paint me as someone who is doing the things that I’ve researched, but that couldn’t be further from the truth."

And when it comes to higher education they’ve been doing this bullshit for so long it’s only more of the same for them, but with a little extra anti-intellectual fascism cherry on top

papers like the New York Times actively help right wing propagandists by introducing false claims as something that's open to debate and interpretation, instead of clearly framing them up front as lies pushed by unreliable operators

Turning Point USA is a right wing propaganda op aimed at kids

News footage from Portland shows a calm, tranquil city. But an AI video that Stephen Miller texted to Donald Trump shows the city as a burning hellhole. The truth may lie somewhere in between.

316th day of the continuous protests in Tbilisi. The daily march from Rustaveli Statue first to the Supreme Court and finally to the parliament.

Still no police presence next to protesters. They took care on their own about the road closure and then in the end the opening of it.

White House staff should just make and show him an AI-generated video where he wins, fly him to Duluth and tell him it’s Oslo, and dare the New York Times to say anything more than “Experts disagree about whether Mr Trump was awarded the Nobel Prize”.

Letitia James is a former public defender and public advocate. She's spent most of her career on the side of the marginalized and underprivileged. And let's be honest: Trump is attacking her because he doesn't want Black women in positions of authority in this country.

From a strategic perspective, I'm struck by how the Trump administration seems to view its strategy as using 'red states' to hold down 'blue states' but the actual gap between Illinois and Texas is fairly small - IL is D+6, TX is R+6 or so. These aren't even 55/45 states, they're both 53/47 states.

I don’t think there is a strategy. I suspect there are competing loci of power in the White House with incompatible goals and personalities. They are making it up as they go along.

For all the legitimate worry about the abuse of the US National Guard, we should acknowledge that leaders and soldiers have behaved incredibly professionally. Stephen Miller's hopes for escalation will not be fulfilled by them.

It's ICE we all need to worry about.

TBF this is what the FedSoc types have been gunning for since Bork. The sinister 6 saw their chance and took it. Now there is no reason to acknowledge the legitimacy of the Robert’s court. The only question is what are we going to do about it?

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

I think what the "we must make sure nothing upsets or discomfits the smol bean middle American" side of this debate misses is that there are huge quantities of human misery and death down both of these paths and all we are doing now is deciding upon whom that misery settles, and when.

Anyone who was paying attention during Gamergate recognizes these tactics.

“Oh *we’re* against doxxing, of course, but that person who got doxxed totally deserved it, and yeah, sure we’ve been calling for them to be fired and their lives ruined, but *we* didn’t personally do it.”
donmoyn.bsky.social
This pretty much captures the contradictions of the politics of Kirk and Turning Point: Of course we oppose doxxing and violence, but we will absolutely use inflammatory language, false claims, and enemies list that fuels threats and intimidation.
Several days after publishing the petition calling for Dr. Bray’s dismissal from Rutgers, the Turning Point USA chapter added an update saying that it did not support harassment or the doxxing of him or anyone else.

“I think that all death threats and doxxing are unjustified and not how political disputes should be resolved in civilized society,” Ava Kwan, a Turning Point USA chapter member, said in an email on Wednesday.
But she defended the broader point of the petition, saying, “I think Dr. Antifa, who believes in violence as a political tool, should be fired, of course. Taxpayer money should not fund the salaries of terrorists.”

For years, Turning Point USA has maintained a watch-list of hundreds of professors whom the group accuses of advancing leftist propaganda in the classroom. Dr. Bray is on the list.

The America we used to live in—the America we want to think we live in—is gone.

We’ll have to build again.
We want to think that the repeated, widespread abuse of basic rights by DHS; the DOJ actions against former officials like James Comey and John Bolton; the presence of 2020 election deniers across congressional and executive branch leaders; the unconstitutional dismantling of federal agencies; the consolidation of old and new media under leadership favorable to Trump; the use of lawsuits and executive branch power to intimidate and silence critics; and the clear attempts to subvert the 2026 and 2028 elections; and Trump's constant insinuation that he might seek a third term do not all in fact mean
that we have crossed the threshold into a competitive authoritarian environment.
But we have. We have passed through the veil. Whatever becomes of American liberal democracy in the near or distant future, it will be a resurrection and not a continuation.
