TRON is a fascinating test case for the cultural difference between the analogue and the digital (rather like the animations in the TV HHG2G). It is an entirely analogue attempt to represent the digital. The sequels are digital attempts to recreate an analogue attempt to represent the digital.

I think what's impressive about TRON is that, visually, it's still so much more interesting than any of it's sequels. It's crazy that they tried update this digital world by making it as 'realistically rendered' as possible. It's a complete misunderstanding of the original's charm.

One of the things I take great pleasure in is that JK published her detective series under a false name because she was insecure about the idea that her literary work would stand on its own merits.

And it didn't.

They leaked her name to recoup their losses.

In my opinion it’s time to retire the Nobel prizes for fields where most of the important discoveries have already been made, like physics, and add prizes for newer fields where substantial innovations occur every year, like speedrunning

Dodged bullet today. Recognised someone that I was on a film studies course with 20 years ago that came into the library today (long memory). They didn’t seem to recognise me and I was about to say hello when I spotted the Robert Galbraith book they were clutching. Awkward encounter avoided.
