A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

Exclusive: Strava just sued Garmin, demanding the company stop selling all their fitness devices (watches and bike computers), due to infringing on a patent. I dive into what's being said, a whole lot of history, what it means, and much more: www.dcrainmaker.com/2025/10/stra...

Of all the news in this NYT survey of sitting federal judges - incl 47 of them think the SCt is mishandling its emergency docket - maybe the biggest is that 65 sitting fed judges (37D, 28R), folks circumspect for a living, responded to a NYT survey. Stunning. And a sign that something is very wrong.

They can't seem to stop the Discover algorithm from showing your posts to people who are WAY outside your social norms of acceptable behavior, so they need to offer a way to stop showing your posts at all.

Holy shit, this story! And check out the ending 2 paragraphs. Our law enforcement at work.

The Virginia Senate just told UVA it’s not getting state funding if it accepts the compact since UVA exists to serve Virginia, its residents, & their interests—not be a tool of the federal govt. like seriously team, I know y'all are working on both improving Discover and on better reply sentiment filtering and all, but it's going to take a while to tune it properly and a "never show my post on Discover" setting would be a 10 minute fix that would get 65% of why people want private accounts

I had a post reach the Discover feed today and was once again reminded of how many people on this site are not house trained.

You would not fire these people—including the staff of the hugely, HUGELY important 'Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report'—if you cared at all about public health, if you wanted people to live.

And you would not let your thuggish henchmen fire people like this if you were a responsible president.

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

For more than 20 years I relied on the MMWR for news every week on what was going on, disease-wise, around the country. You often got excellent blow-by-blows about disease outbreaks.

For some context the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly report in addition to being just a good read, to quote wikipedia, "is the main vehicle for publishing public health information and recommendations that have been received by the CDC from state health departments. "

Look, I've never skeeted about this before but when I was at NYT I was involved in a sexual harassment thing. I was not the person lodging the complaint (nor was I the harasser). I was a corroborating witness let's say. Anyway, NYT did the right thing and fired the harasser.

BUT

the list of things that needs to be done to repair this country is extensive but high up on it is breaking the power of the tech lords

they are convinced they are untouchable feudal barons whose money allows them to dictate everyone else's life and they must be disabused of that notion

Do you really have any rights if they are openly saying they will just make up reasons to detain you?
thematthill.bsky.social
Wow. Greg Bovino admits on camera that his agents can detain people if you look scared, change your demeanor, or grip a steering wheel too tight.

As his unmasked agents walk around with large guns to scare you, they may arrest you just for that — even if you're a U.S. citizen.

Encourage lawyers to weigh in but broad journalism exceptions can protect donors (remember we all hooted at Becker for trying to get @wedge.live’s), maybe even in paid placement & criticizing electeds close to election ok as long as not express calls to defeat (I think). Professionals whaddya think?
ericprindle.bsky.social
So I finally wasted a half hour of my life watching "A Precarious State" on 2x. Law-talking folks and campaign finance watchers: Am I Becka/Becker levels of delusional to think that complaints against Kupchella (10A.14, 10A.20, 211B.04) and Hubbard (211B.05) might actually have legs?
ericprindle.bsky.social
I might force myself to watch it to see if it's worth filing a campaign finance complaint.

I've been wondering why Dominion Voting Systems suddenly reached settlements with Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and One America News.

Turns out, it's been purchased by a Republican-owned election tech firm that insisted on it, per Axios.

i know people are eager to show MPD working with ICE but you really gotta slow down and verify info before sharing it. what are MPD supposed to do if they get called in, just not respond? but if they do, then it gets painted as ICE collaboration based on photos without info. dangerous stuff here
