The US government will never do an explosive nuclear test again at the Nevada Test Site.

They have built an immense underground laboratory, costing billions of dollars. It contains particle accelerators and lasers that will not fare well with the shaking that comes with nuclear tests.
@cherylrofer.bsky.social Any thoughts on this? (FTR @ajaxsinger.bsky.social isn’t a loon or conspiracist)

If I were a total conspiracist, I'd mention that 5.9 is within the range expected for an underground nuclear test and having the notification wiped from USGS is concerning.

It's a sign of the debasement of political dialogue in he United States today that a cabinet secretary can tell insane lies of this sort on public television without being challenged or corrected. The total number of US deaths attributable to cocaine use in the US was put at roughly 22,000 in 2024,

Yeah, one of the many nightmare scenarios facing us is that a badly led and mostly destroyed intelligence infrastructure fails to prevent a major terrorist attack and that attack is then used as justification to speed up the fascism.
I do in fact stay awake at night sometimes thinking about how the MAGA ghouls are destroying actually-essential counterterrorism efforts in favor of directing resources towards brutalizing elderly taco truck workers
NEW: Oregon could lose nearly $18 million worth of terrorism prevention and emergency funding.

In the past, the money has paid for bomb detectors, law enforcement training and barriers that prevent cars from plowing into crowds.

For context: Jack served as head of the Office of Legal Counsel during the Bush administration. He’s widely regarded—especially in conservative legal circles—as a leading authority on executive power. The fact that he’s expressing this view in such stark terms is significant.
Harvard Law School’s Jack Goldsmith:

“In short, if the Post’s facts are correct, it appears that Special Operations Forces committed murder when the ‘two men were blown apart in the water, as the Post put it.’”

Our information space is dominated by a system that demands and rewards continous and immediate emotional gratification, so you can't even begin to have a discussion about complex issues. It's a bright cancer that spreads and multiplies with every interaction.
It's part of the electionification of everything, which is why we as a country are failing to have a proper conversation about our actual problems. It's bad for the left *and* the right.
It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.
