God, I read and watched MISERY a few years ago, and it really was wild just how much both foresaw, to the point where I just had to reevaluate my understanding of what "fandom"/ pop culture generally looked like in previous decades. The spiritual rot predated funkopops, apparently.
Annie Wilkes from Misery is spiritually Millennial:
▪️cottagecore
▪️extremely toxic fandom
▪️aggressive side part
▪️weird childish curses
▪️puritanical, but also
▪️horrifyingly perverted

RIP Annie you would have been so good at BookTok

There's a Silent Hill movie now steeped in metaphor and symbolism, has an unreliable narrator, and is more interested in being open to interpretation than a conventionally-structured plot. Critics and fans hate it.

Biden had kids, infants, appearing in immigration court with no lawyers, no parents, and no hope of being treated like a human being. No one wanted to hear about it, let alone try to stop it while a Democrat was in the White House. ICE is a bipartisan monster for the last 25 years, not just now.

My take on the Jan 23 action in Minneapolis is that I don’t really care whether it’s a “true” general strike (we could argue about that all day).

What DOES matter is that it’s a bold and necessary escalation, and local labor leaders are publicly encouraging workers to join in anti-ICE resistance

John Carpenter is 78.
He’s got zero tolerance for rude gits.

protestors have painted what appears to be a tunnel on the side of the mountain, causing ICE agents to run into the mountain at full speed.

I had to cover just today at the daily rate. Still need $450 to cover the rest of the week!
Hi, I’m still trying to raise $650 TODAY if at all humanly possible, to keep a roof over our heads. Anything is helpful, even if it’s just sharing this when you see it on your timeline. Thank you!

Dunno if this is obvious or not, but if Kurt Russell is sticking around for Monarch, I hope John Carpenter gets involved.

It might be five days of being sick talking, but every person in the 2006 comedy ACCEPTED looks interesting. Just a great crowd-scene movie

Humans are not “a virus” or “a cancer,” we are part of this world and our relationship to nature is not limited to extraction or preservation. We can actually improve ecological systems if we try
The Santa Cruz River now flows again through Tucson after treated wastewater was redirected into its channel, reviving wetlands and native life. We can thank reconciliation ecology for this - the practice of environmental restoration in human-dominated landscapes.

AuraFlex has one of the cooler products at CES 2026. It's what they call a photonic muscle. Basically these soft bundles have an LED in them that makes the material contract in a way that functions like a muscle. You can use them to replace larger mechanical motors

It's 2026 and Schumer is publicly admitting he continues to take Trump at his word
Schumer: “I was in the SCIF on 3 different occasions … I asked them: Are you pursuing regime change? Are you intent on taking military action in Venezuela?"

“And they are assured me they are not pursuing those things”

this is the cartoon version of American imperialism - we’re going and kidnapping foreign leaders because we want the oil and saying that out loud on the television - and if you can’t just flat out oppose that without qualifications get out of the way

The US has launched an unprovoked and illegal attack on Venezuela.

This is a brazen attempt to secure control over Venezuelan natural resources.

It is an act of war that puts the lives of millions of people at risk, and should be condemned by anyone who believes in sovereignty & international law.

Don't overthink the Trump admin's reasoning here. They don't have a grand scheme. They are willing to upend the international order because they think everyone else will be too scared to fuck with them. And whatever terrorist attacks this inspires against us will just help them electorally.
