one of the fundamental differences, for better or worse, btwn the way in which gunn refracts the triangle era through his reflection on film and the way in which snyder did, is that you would not get the embarrassment and immaturity of clark fumbling the bag so pathetically in one of snyder's films.

i'm on record as being a TRON LEGACY hater (they ruined what makes TRON compelling art) but i do think it's funny in a revelatory sort of way that the best way Dis could think of retaining the trademark any further via a film reboot ... was "give it to the GEARS OF WAR 'mad world' trailer director".

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

one of the things that struck me listening to them contemporaneous with their release was how awkward and fragile so many of the resulting tracks wound up becoming. people overlaid so much stentorianism and funereal resonance onto their responses to a great boatload of jellied, creaking sentiment.

ironically i think it *was* the effect the AMERICAN recordings had in casting his legacy in amber that's seen him sort of fall by the wayside in the current zeitgeist, where more malleable frameworks like the ones the piece contrasts him to have found their provincial champions-from-the-heartland.
