my man, you’re talking about the people who killed George Floyd
State and local law enforcement know the communities they serve. They’ve built the trust and know how to keep us safe.

As Minnesotans express their first amendment rights, I encourage you to remain peaceful and know that local law enforcement has one goal in mind: your safety.

If you're not willing to arrest the killer, don't arrest the demonstrators.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 29 people were arrested in downtown last night during a noise demonstration at a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents: "For those that are taking the bait and causing property damage or otherwise, there are consequences. We're holding the line here all the way."

Sky after sunset. Nice colours again.

Using these old cameras, the dynamic range is so low that silhouetting the foreground becomes the natural aesthetic choice.

I want to send a shout out to Robin -because the posts Robin makes on art history are so impactful.

Through all of this, they are not giving up on fundraisers for Gazans on this platform … while everyone else has their attention elsewhere.

You rock, Robin.

Yes, and there's also something similar in what is accepted history: who is in power chooses the narratives. The "canon" and "classics" are also the same thing: decided by the dominant groups. (I'm not disregarding that there are also just compelling stories in what has been passed down.)

Very much so, as with a lot of theatre (like you said about Shakespeare). I doubt wealthy elites have ever had something they didn't steal or appropriate and then gatekeep.

Oh god yes! I once did a post explaining that Shakespeare was in fact the telenovela of it's day, and I had so many English Lit snobs in my mentions just crashing out.

A good story is still a good story no matter where it comes from.
Academia escapee here: I'd argue modern interpretations are a sign people understand the source material. Also Dickens work was published in cheap magazines, Shakespeare wrote for the masses, not the elites. The classics stuff just feels like snobbery with a side order of venerating old white dudes.

This city is at its best when it is full of art made by and for New Yorkers. Access to the arts growing up here, through student discounts and education programs, is why I have a career in theater. It means a lot to see a politician champion this cause
“When I speak about making our city more affordable, my vision is not limited to the homes that we live in or the child care that we’re making universal — it’s also a vision where we make it possible for working people to afford lives of joy, of art, of rest, of expression.”
