I run a Discord server for disabled folks who are still significantly isolating and taking precautions around COVID. Here's the application for an invite if anyone is interested. tinyurl.com/digitaldisab...

prescription drug commercials uphold ableism. MANY of them contain a line about how, “i won’t let my diagnosis stop me,” which is simply not how complex diagnoses or medications work (especially bc the 2nd half of the ad is just horrific side effects)

Pretty shameful for scientists to be posting about the effects of covid and basically going "damn, anyway"
And not bothering to tell people to take any fucking mitigations with their huge fucking platform

“Why is RFK going after autism so hard?”

Because you all can’t fucking get past your hangups about disability in the year of our gourd 2025.

I would go further and say that everyone deserves basic necessities to live whether they have a job or not.

The Atlantic, the NYT, and so many others also participated in the destruction of public health by repeatedly publishing the lie that COVID is mild, and now an organ- and immune-system damaging airborne virus is running rampant everywhere—w/ no infection control anywhere.

Great work everyone.

The Atlantic, the NYT, the Post, the Free Press, Persuasion ... god, so many others ... they did it. They participated in the destruction of norms against bigotry & now bigotry is running rampant, out in the open, at the highest levels.

Great work everyone.

FYI masks protect the wearer too, not just the people around you from getting sick from you. Shouldn't be surprised some folks are still misinformed about this but it's concerning when I see it.
alanasaltz.bsky.social
That is scientifically untrue. They work from breathing things in as well. Google it. I just saw an article about that the other day and have for years. N95s filter out 95%. Other masks do as well to varying degrees. You've been misinformed.

This isn't even really new. People love to vent and complain to me all day but the second I do it, suddenly I'm being too much and they have to try to fix me or change my perspective. I hold space for them but if I meet them there with my own stuff suddenly I'm a problem. And they can't even see it.
alanasaltz.bsky.social
And it doesn't need to be that hardcore, an N95 can be as comfortable and low profile as a surgical and not that expensive and does a great job.

My new favorite form of toxic positivity is when someone complains about something, I literally agree with them, and they then backpedal and say "oh it's not that bad" and try to make it sound like I'm overreacting and too negative. I can't win. I'm not allowed to be negative even if they start it.
alanasaltz.bsky.social
I can't believe that ever didn't bother me. As well as sitting on public toilet seats and a ton of other things. I was doing more than most and carried sanitizer and washed hands a good amount but a lot of people don't even do that. And still don't.

You’re allowed to identify as disabled, even if you think “others have it worse”.

It’s not something that’s only gatekept by the “most severe”.
Disability is a varied, diverse spectrum.

If your condition(s) affect your life, if they disable you… you are valid.

It's fucking weird to be living in like at least ten different apocalypses at once.

Most apocalypse stories don't stack more than five.

Calling this “keyboard warrior culture” misses the point. The problem is NOT a few angry men on the internet. It’s an ecosystem (i.e. disinformation, misogyny, racism and political polarisation) that rewards aggression and punishes empathy.
alanasaltz.bsky.social
It's horrifying. Between school and all the travel I did with family I was exposed to so much and was sick almost all the time. A lot of that could have been avoided and the concept behind masks as illness prevention has been around for a long time we're just too ableist as a society to do it.
alanasaltz.bsky.social
I can't comprehend the people who know they work and could be preventing illnesses and won't even wear them selectively in healthcare, crowds, public transit. Or even around vulnerable folks which is the biggest insult but they should do it for their own sake too. This should have changed things.
alanasaltz.bsky.social
I bet I'd be less sick and disabled if I hadn't gotten endless colds, flus, viruses throughout my life. If I'd known about how great masks are. If it had been societally encouraged or accepted. Some things gave me lasting symptoms and likely made my baseline worse. I'd never go back to not masking.

And no I don't currently have access to a PT or OT or competent and available doctor to help me with all this so I'm on my own but even with help I'd hit a lot of the same barriers. Down the line this might change a bit but for now it's very difficult and I can't be alone with this struggle.
alanasaltz.bsky.social
Like why is it so hard to find a comfortable bedside commode? They're all so flimsy and terrible. Like it doesn't matter if sick and disabled folks have a comfortable experience. Same with so many OTC wheelchairs and canes and all kinds of things. It's making my pain worse to deal with this stuff.
alanasaltz.bsky.social
I really wish they made mobility and accessibility devices more comfortable and affordable overall. It's a nightmare every time I need a new piece of equipment to find something affordable and that will work with my sensitivities and the trial and error process can be expensive and painful.

Cold Quaker maple brown sugar oatmeal. Just milk, no microwaving. It's like granola sort of.

Hear ye hear ye a message of hope and inspiration from our courageous leader in exile, Link. May all his loyal followers take heart!
I appreciate all the people showing love and support to me. I’m so grateful honestly. It means a lot. The ban isn’t that big of a deal for me. I think it was wrong and the explanation was bullshit. But that’s ok and I accept. Social media comes and goes. I’m grateful for all the connections I was able to make and all the people I get to be connected with off Bluesky. More importantly, the world needs more people to give a fuck. More people to give a fuck about Palestinians, more people to give a fuck about disabled folks, more people to give a fuck about our queer and trans siblings, more people to give a fuck about Black liberation. The world, and Bluesky, is full of bootlickers who will do anything to avoid doing anything to upset the status quo. These people are cowards groveling to those in power in hopes of protection. I just hope people continue to show love and care and kindness. Mutual aid is so important. Give when you can, boost when you can. We only survive this together.

Would love to share if these had alt text. Especially on info about healthcare that will impact disabled folks.
