i started reading the series when we got it in north america in 1998, i was like "this is just kinda regular britain but shittier. clearly this is to make a point and this'll change with the plot" and then it didn't. and i was like "i guess she loves only the shittiest parts of britain"
That was the real, subtler disappointment of HP: not that it ended clumsily or with unpopular couples, but that it had the world's attention - a real, lightning chance to make an impression on everyone - and it said "see? trying to change things is wrong."

Bovino is just the patsy - a noxious and odious fall guy. Stephen Miller is the architect and prime mover of the whole thing. Everything they do is at his direction - often after his threats. As long as he runs policy in the WH, nothing will change no matter how many Bovinos come and go.

Stephen Miller made the same claims and this would be an *excellent* time for mainstream folks (papers, celebs, athletes) and Dems to demand his resignation as well. So consistently and loudly that the WH is forced to respond. Make him their liability.

Histeria is fascinating in how it made an honest effort to blend historical education with Animaniacs style humor even it was largely Kids WBs attempt to comply with E/I guidelines. Its funny to imagine what the show would been like it was made today.

Americans have a habit of trying to compare all authoritarianism to Nazi Germany. I think in some ways i think it is comforting to view authoritarianism as a foreign ideology. If you want to understand our current authoritarian moment, you need to look to our own past, not to Europe 1/x
