We use open-ended survey questions (in Germany) to assess how and among whom social status shifts are perceived. This tests cultural backlash narratives in voters' perceptions.

My hypothesis is this might be an "ask people to participate" story. So, demobilized over demoralized. There aren't clear age divides in external efficacy (eg, think politicians don't care what people think). Everyone is low. To get young people active then ask them.

Well the book wasn't done by the end of the semester as planned, but shipping the conclusion to coauthors signals all chapters are drafted by the end of the semester. Feels good. Excited to have this coming together.

So there you have it, twin study estimates were greatly inflated, and molecular data sets the record straight. I walk through possible counter-arguments, but ultimately the uncomfortable truth is that genes contribute to traits much less than we always thought.

Drafting the book conclusion has taken me today to: East German daycares, PiS changing Poland's "pedagogy of shame", China's Eighth Curriculum Reform and post-Tiananmen Patriotic Education Campaign, and curricular changes in democratizing Taiwan. I guess I am a comparativist now.

We’ve 100% lost the war on using phones while driving and it’s the worst.
