i think that it is critically important to retaliate.
Trump will not just be four years of bad management. The culture of these organizations will be fucked for a long time. The pressure to retaliate and clean house will be strong, and no-one wants to work in a war zone.

I kind of wonder whether the RFK endorsement wasn’t greater than the sum of its parts. That is, it didn’t just bring on people who were already RFK fans, but also helped bolster a (completely false) image of a bipartisan anti-establishment campaign.
Had a pretty liberal English teacher colleague become a Trump supporter after RFK Jr. endorsed. I think that was a bigger deal than many suspected at the time.

So Halligan has a conundrum. If she is "mistaken" about these times in her sworn declaration, she's not telling the truth about the GJ transcripts and proceedings. If she IS telling the truth, "the Court is in uncharted legal territory in that the indictment returned in open court was not . . ."

this should really be illegal!
Child marriage is heinous, but one thing I never see brought up in those discussions is that if you are under 18, you cannot file for divorce. If you are under 18 and married to an adult, they are your legal guardian and make decisions for you. That is not a partnership.
Most Minors Who Are Married Can't File for Divorce — Even if They Want To
The final installment of Wedlocked, our series about child marriage in the U.S., explores divorce.

Thinking about how Summers and Epstein both frequently manipulated the media into giving or withholding coverage when they wanted and how the same media mysteriously decided to wage a scorched earth jihad against Harvard's President Claudine Gay. It's a strange coincidence to ponder!
Faculty discipline committees should really normalize de-tenuring/dismissal investigations for the sort of behavior described in the Summers case

4/ Of the 11(!) findings Judge Fitzpatrick made, this one seems the most ominous - that the "grand jury transcript and recording likely do not reflect the full proceedings" before it.

Can’t do regime change with the forces the US has positioned near Venezuela. Lacks the occupation force to install a new regime.

Can’t dismantle narcotics organizations either.

(And for the conspiracy theorists — can’t steal oil either.)

But can do a bunch of bombing and regime destabilization.

The US is not a liberal democracy, and hasn’t been since January. Constitution, rule of law, checks and balances, individual rights — all not in operation.

It’s now a mixed regime, autarky, competitive authoritarianism.

Not at risk. Not could be. Is.

Doesn’t mean that’s forever. But it is now.
This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.

Aunt: "How is she going to get deported if she’s a Native American?"

Sheriff: "Well, we don’t know because we’re not [ICE] … We’re just holding her for them. So, when they pick her up tonight they’re going to go ahead & deport her to wherever they’re going to take her, but we have no info on that."

For Susan Akin, Zepbound helps her endure a world full of triggers. She can visit a gas station without wanting to buy beer or see sugar without dialing a cocaine dealer.

But scientists caution that the research remains nascent.
