Union contracts typically require layoffs to go by seniority. I'm not sure letting go of young talent is the best strategy in these circumstances.

Form personal experience I want to correct one statement in the article. There will be a quite thorough investigation of this incident, and it will be shared with everyone in the petroleum industry. The entire industry has an incentive to prevent explosions, and we are good at investing them.

Correct. And where there is no one with eyes on the airfield the rule becomes one in, one out. It is a very slow way to run a busy airport.

Yep, and the procedure is one in, one out. No one get to take off while any plane is on an approach, and no plane can be cleared for an approach until the departing plane is radar identified. It is a very slow way to run a busy airport.

It is frightening to me how "algorithmic" people become when they no longer remember to move on to the next thing. It has made me really question how much of my actions are inevitable even if I perceived that I am choosing in the moment.

Can you show that you are making a choice? I spent hours and hours with parents who had dementia. One of the clear signs of failing memory is "getting stuck in a loop." If you don't remember you've already said / done something, you will do it over and over.

There is a big push among conservative parents to have their children read the same book they, their parents and grand parents read. These parents are being organized by GOP staffers and our school bards are going MAGA because of it.

This is true, however, we need to acknowledge the path one would take to become a living literary critic and ask how much bias exists in earning that title. The perception that anyone who would recommend Twain for HS study would never be able to earn an MFA creates mistrust in literary critics.

It is so difficult to distinguish gifted from merely ahead. My wife was tagged as "gifted" because her older sister taught her to read before she started first grade. When classmates caught up, she struggled with the idea that she wasn't smart anymore.
