“I am too scared to drive my 5-year-old daughter to school in my husband’s car. I’m terrified ICE will detain me and our daughter will end up alone,” she said. “This is just as scary as the war in Ukraine, except now we don’t have Dmytro with us..."

This, too, is Gender.

If you’re a man who makes six figures but gets dirty while doing it you’re Authentically Working Class, but if you’re a woman who’s a teacher’s aide making below median wage you’re somehow An Elite.

I don't even want to know how they know this.
(6/11) Uber tracks battery life. Former exec Keith Chen noted in 2016 that users with low battery are statistically more likely to accept surge pricing. Uber says it doesn’t use that data to set prices, but the correlation remains a point of regulatory scrutiny. www.npr.org/transcripts/...
This Is Your Brain On Uber
This week we feature Keith Chen, a behavioral economist at UCLA and the head of economic research at Uber. Keith explains why surge pricing makes us nuts and discusses our weird economic choices.

(1/11) If you live in NY, you’ve probably started seeing a new warning: “THIS PRICE WAS SET BY AN ALGORITHM USING YOUR PERSONAL DATA.” This mandatory disclosure went into effect late last year, and it’s the first attempt by a US state to grapple with a new generation of surveillance pricing.

Came here to check this one was here.

Speak-and-Spell, not subversively but by some of the same folks. Very few survive because the tech was so advanced on the kids’ toy that techies poached and repurposed the voice card and display.

FWIW, most of the surviving ones still work. Great products.

Bluesky was literally meant to be a cryptobro social network for grifters, LinkedIn sludge, and libertarians who know way too much about age of consent laws.

Jack Dorsey *left* when instead of weird and off-putting cryptonerds, trans people started hanging out here.
Can you think of examples where people use technologies differently from what the developers intended, whether unintentionally or as an act of resistance?

I am very apologetic that DJT will forever stain our heritage
Far from what's important here, but geez, look at that tiny fist. It almost qualifies as a nubbin.
If you think there’s NOTHING in our heritage (or in any nation’s) to be unapologetic about, you’re a fool. A dangerous fool.

We wish he had NOT come here, so put another checkmark in favor of diversity
Swear to god, so many of these uber rich guys who keep trying to intellectualize and sanitize white supremacy really are the dumbest motherfuckers alive. They constantly say word salad-y nonsense like this that would cause them to fail a fourth grade US history test.
This odious white supremacist needs to learn some history.

Not so long ago, it was common to see "Irish need not apply" in job listings in the United States. You know, the same type of pernicious prejudice that Elon exhibits regularly.

I hadn't heard this shit until now and finding out Platner was all in on "black people don't tip" makes way too much sense. And it's a huge red flag for anyone who works in hospitality because it's not true. Everyone who's worked behind the stick knows who undertips and it's not the black community
