I wanted to recognize that I've been crossing the streams, and apologize.

Going forward I'm going to redouble my efforts on clear, nuanced, factual reporting as a mechanism of community self-defense.

Some feedback I've received recently made me realize it's... unfit-for-purpose for me to 1/4
If the higher standard I need to hold myself to means that I need to not use my byline to write within the Opinion vertical at The Needle because of the problems with potential conflicts between my role as editor and my role as writer and my role as manager, then that is what I will do now. 4/4
Going forward, I will hold myself to a higher standard. In short, I'll do better.

I started The Needle to bring nuance and clarity to trans-led trans-focused journalism where I felt we, as trans people, were being failed. - Not to dunk or discourse.

I want to do right by my community. 3/4
use my byline at The Needle to publish my own op-eds and commentaries.

I don't want to undermine our community or our work.

I am focused on actual journalism, not the fear-mongering yellow journalism (that doesn't even use AP style!) that prompted me to start The Needle.

I am sorry. 2/4

The first piece of writing I ever made for The Needle was our ethics statement, much of which is about what to do if we need to issue a retraction.

I thought about that before we did a single piece of journalism or published a single opinion essay.
A recent opinion article from The Needle pissed some people off and we fixed the offending section same-day.

Assigned Media has published certain misinformation for 3 months+ that even local mainstream media later backed away from.

If we ever push misinfo, we'll delete and retract immediately.
original article archive below and the next post is proof i gathered that it still wasn't fixed as of 2 days ago

it literally took 3 months for @assignedmedia.org to slightly edit a headline that aligned with NY post and mainstream coverage doing the same misinfo

We covered this before the main British trans focused outlet or the several US trans focused outlets did btw.

Once again, The Needle is the first trans news org to cover a trans rights story.

If you want to support news that gets to you fast, you can support us below:
Really proud that our first commissioned guest article at The Needle is live and that we're already at a point where we were able to "afford" a single guest article this month.

If you, too, believe in paying trans voices, check out theneedle.news/join and pick the paid tier that's right for you!
The Needle - News
Digitally-native, globally-focused trans coverage by us, for us.

And what we're criticizing happens to black trans women too, often to a more egregious degree!

Erin, has AOC actually proposed any policy solutions?

Or are you reporting her social media dunk as a tidal shift that isn't backed with any actual momentum?

There's a reason @theneedlenews.com hasn't covered this AOC news- social media dunks aren't policy changes or even policy proposals.

Cis people only know how to draw trans people as either "indistinguishable from transphobic propaganda" or "essentially hentai art". They can't actually depict us as we are.
You're right, I should've specified. The textbook is "Waylen et al. (eds) (2013) The Oxford Handbook of Gender and Politics"

Does anybody actually want that? If not, consider that it's hard to be a radical trans writer even in the best of circumstances. If that's literally the only disadvantage you've got going on. We can afford to give people the grace to be people. We can afford to let em have shit takes. Make mistakes.

If you can't handle people who's experiences and needs are different than yours recounting those experiences and needs then you are no more intellectually curious or interested in helping people than my conservative father and that's a damn shame.
Hi Mira! Long time, little contact.

We were NEVER causing a divide. People who either can't or chose not to read ascribed intent, malice, and meaning that we never telegraphed to what we actually said.

It has never been about anything more than that and the fact that everyone is ascribing all this extra meaning and projections including value statements onto a conversation that was primarily started by trans women honestly feels transmisogynistic as fuck
No the claim was that transsexual was like how some diabetics need insulin but other diabetics do not need insulin.

Also.... the author of the article I think you're responding to literally wrote for @assignedmedia.org a piece about making (trans) healthcare free at the point of service and OTC?
Hey... I'd like to discuss this and collaborate with you on something regarding this.

Can you email me at artemis[at]theneedlenews[dot]com or signal at adnews.52

Really hope we can work together?

(the tldr is i'm offering to commission/pay you to write something in this vein)
I'm sorry that people are trying to flatten us, I guess is my point.

😭💗🫂
Hey, @nacl.sh , I legitimately see you.

Signed, a transsexual woman who doesn't pass very well despite multiple interventions, is one of the rarer forms of intersex, needs HRT to survive for reasons I can't disclose publicly, and is non-binary with neopronouns (which everyone seems to ignore)
