European Hornet

This was my first time working with Arches watercolor paper. I really liked it but it destroyed my fine-liner after I finished this piece. Will definitely try hot press next.

Traditional drawing done of a European Hornet made with watercolors and ink. The Hornet has yellow, orange and dark orange throughout and it’s standing on a leaf which is drawn more loosely and suggested rather than a full leaf that’s detailed. It was made in 2023.

Oh I could not resist drawing both of these male and female Kajil Pheasants for #Birdtober! I love how they look like they’re making a courtly bow to each other. Lol.

The watercolor drawing depicts a Hyena yawning with its mouth open and tongue hanging out. The artists used watercolor and ink to draw this and used light and dark browns, and oranges for the fur. The areas of the eyes, snout and ear were colored with a dark blue grey and the inside of the mouth and tongue are pink. The teeth also include some yellow to depict plaque on the teeth. The artists added their signature and date made on the most bottom right side of the painting.

Drawing of an Amazonian Poison Dart Frog done traditionally. It was made using watercolors and fine-liners. The frog is colored with oranges some yellow and blue with lots of speckled white in the blue and some stippling of ink. The background is light green but only is a small portion of the background is that color the rest is the paper.

Drawing of a Fire-Bellied Toad done traditionally. It was made with watercolors and fine-liners. The toad has a lot of texture included with bumps drawn and the ink was used for the black areas of the toad. Green and orange were the main colors used with orange being on the belly and green on upper portion of the toad. It also includes some white highlights throughout and a blue circle background with the rest being the white of the paper.

Digital painting studies of tree frogs. There are three in total with one hanging onto a branch and the other two look to have a sitting position. The background is a solid grey.

A Ringed Plover hunts for insects in the debris on the bank of a reservoir. It's a small wading bird with white underparts, a brown back and wings, a dark brown collar, a white throat, and a brown head with white stripes above the beak and eyes, and a black forehead stripe.

Conclusion: Scientists no longer find Twitter useful or pleasant, and many have switched to Bluesky! 🧪🌎🦑
