I love how at some point recently they tightened up the rules on what restaurants are allowed to advertise as being allergen free, and as a result the restaurants prepare everything the same, but now every time you mention an allergy when ordering, you trigger an unskippable cutscene

The corollary of this is that only America was capable of destroying America. And it did.
If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

When are DJI going to do a handheld gimbal with a built in Micro Four Thirds sensor and lens mount?

They already have a gimbal with a built in camera (the Osmo Pocket) and a drone-mounted MFT gimbal (the Zenmuse X5), so all the bits are there…

least favourite thing: online stores that pre-check the “Send me news and offers from this store” checkbox, and then when you manually uncheck it, they spam you anyway

You know you’re dealing with a company with exceptional customer support systems and processes when you email them, and then they email you back asking you to give them your email address.

Good! An early insight of human centered design is that it was possible to reduce airplane crashes by introducing tactile switches and toggle that did not create confusion or require people to take their eyes away from their core tasks donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-origin...

The US has had the most combative, organized and social movement oriented working class in the West over the last fifteen years, there are whole national street mvmts people have completely forgotten about (OccupyICE, anybody?) and anyone who fails to name this assessing the political situation 🚮
I’ve said it and I believe it is true

There is a willful forgetting and suppression of the memory of the hundreds of protests that shook this nation for the past decade and a half. So while Canadians and European laypeople whine “Americans don’t do anything,” the Americans are actively suppressed

It's not just the gun lobby. The entire global illiberal right *despise* the Australian 1996 gun reforms, because they're held up as an example of a govt acting in response to popular feeling. Thus the efforts to block any additional ones, and even try to say "oh well, they failed, reverse them"

What the fuck are we actually voting for, here? The fucking MAJORITY of Democrat Representatives just fell immediately in line to expand funding to TRUMP'S fucking military AND establish federal regulation of sex.
115 democrats just voted to establish the first federal statutory definition of sex, which could now be used to

• charge fraud for using documents that misrepresent “sex”
• reverse all federal records gender markers
• sue a future gov’t for attempting to rescind trump’s anti-trans exec orders
As Trump drags us into an Iraq-style war in Venezuela, 312 members of the House — including 115 Democrats — just voted to authorize over $900 billion in military spending.

“I want to be a crappy parent but I want the court to force my kid to love me anyway,” the divorced conservative dad story
You might think from the headline that this is a story about a trans kid suffering medical consequences from a large drug dose but nope! It is just an interview with an estranged father who is angry that his child happily transitioned.

When this "AI" bubble pops, the men pretending they weren't pushing the hype, like "critics" whose position is "AGI is real but LLMs aren't the way," who were in eugenicist and "AI existential risk"🙄 circles, will get specials discussing what they saw coming, when its the women who told you so.
