I like her a lot but my awareness of her largely started with X-Calibur.

Everything before that just kinda faded from memory because she didn’t really matter and also because then Jubilee came along and “wants to cut class to go to the arcade, rollerblades” was more relatable.

Doesn’t the fifth amendment specifically state that the bar against being compelled to act as witness against yourself is specific to criminal cases, though?

I thought that’s what “you have the right to remain silent” refers to.

Like she never wanted to get married, so getting sent off to be a servant for a dragon seemed like a good deal and the worst part of her day is telling knights who show up to “rescue” her to go away. Sometimes magically enabled traps are required iirc?

As a recommendation for after that (whole series, if you like Magic Kingdom then you’ve got 5 more to enjoy after) I’m a big fan of Dealing With Dragons.

It’s not really gonna give you fae and it’s YA but it’s about a princess who’s held by a dragon and actually likes it a great deal.

My wife was my best friend first “I just didn’t want to make it weird” was a thing, but before we dated (but while I was catsitting) she went into the room I was crashing in, said “I’m just really afraid of flying”, (full on Desrheart) kissed me and left.

I didn’t figure it out for 2 more months.

Beaver was a “fuck, we have mesh that no one wants to eat hear” thing and Nutria are a “you have a duty to keep shooting them” meat so “you will eat THAT on Fridays” thing makes sense?

Nutria: the poisonous pufferfish of the rodent world except environmental stability doesn’t require you to try to extirpate those pufferfish and also they allegedly taste good.

Plus lol anyone living in Salmon Xountry would rather eat salmon than most things, so nutria and beavers are so very apropos.

The decisions on what is ideal vs what you do when things aren’t ideal is a big part of human culture as a machine, and for stuff that has survived a really long time it’s both fascinating and useful to see what shifted.

Absolutely. My grandma played with my grandma before they were married (it was a fairly normal navy/wren courtship thing I think?guaranteed chaperones, etc) but he liked it a lot more than her and wound up playing with coworkers later on.

Yeah, I think there’s a British class consciousness concept that spread past England itself that holds that adults must play Bridge or something that gets in to people.

It’s like the bathtub gin of of trick games, I’ve got lot of fond memories playing it.

(Spades being the the domestic beer of trick games, which is to say I’ll play it a ton with friends but it is a bit thin)
