Capitalism poisoned nostalgia so much that some people can’t seem to enjoy nostalgia of *any* kind now. Not all nostalgia is bad? So what if you like a seasonal food or family tradition just because of nostalgia?? It’s fine!! Let yourself enjoy harmless things and warm fuzzy memories.

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

This is disgraceful toadying to someone who could well be dead, out of office, or both by the time this reanimated corpse knuckle-drags itself to the screen. Some context: Ratner directed the state-approved Melania doc that is coming to Prime, so he's now a friend of The Family. >
I teased this last night in What I’m Hearing but now confirmed: Paramount WILL release Rush Hour 4 after prodding from Trump on behalf of Brett Ratner. Distribution deal. Producer Tarak Ben Ammar is lining up financing. Get ready for the dumbest possible state-controlled media.

And folks this is why even if you choose not to be in a union--for whatever reason--you still owe your co-workers solidarity. The discussions were, seemingly, bcomparing salaries and talking about a company policy change to their slack server. Someone went to management and got 34 people fired.
PMG understands Rockstar became aware of these messages after at least one non-union member of the server raised concerns about these discussions with management and this either kicked off, or contributed to, a wider investigation.

I think it's easy to try to feel "above" this kind of thing but going to movie where people are laughing and the adventure is so dang silly really is great.

Bloated and absurd movie but the vibes were great.

Some Sunday ready over on the HGN blog! Today’s new post from @xurvermilion.bsky.social explores the potential of videogames as a way of engaging students with historical research, and key skills in critical analysis:

Why should students care about historymaking in videogames?  | Historical Games Network
We might spend time exploring zora monoliths in Breath of the Wild’s (2017) Hyrule and the tales they speak around kings of old, or snooping through an item’s description (such as a holy great sword, ...

This always frustrates me when reading a lot of Ebert’s review. It is more about his own perception of the movie advertising than talking about the movie.
The thing that always rubbed me the wrong way about Ebert's dislike of Blue Velvet is he seems to project his own reactions onto Rossellini in a way that takes away her agency. I was uncomfortable with what happens to her in this movie, therefore she must have been as well, despite her reassurances

Buttigieg polled an impressive 0% with Black voters. Zero. Percent.

Do you know how kind and friendly Black voters are? Everyone gets like 3%, just for showing up! You have to work to go down from there!

It's 2025, And I still run into people that don't know why Black voters don't like Buttigieg.
This is a straightforward Republican attack line, what the fuck is he doing
