In related news about the Washington Post and the state of journalism today, Amazon "ran a $1.2 billion tax bill last year, down from $9 billion the previous year, even as its profits jumped by 45% to nearly $90 billion."

That's in the wake of the 2025 tax bill

Amazon's tax bill plunges after GOP tax cuts
The 87 percent drop is largely due to a more generous depreciation break in the 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act.'

Methane pollution from US oil and gas infrastructure causes more climate change than the entire economies of all but seven nations on earth.

(This is with methane's climate impacts conservatively evaluated over a 100-year time frame. Evaluated over shorter time frames, methane's impacts are worse.)

There is so much good stuff in this report but man does this stand out - it has never been so important to switch from fossil to clean rather than from coal to gas. This is great to see
I'll end on a goodbye...for coal.

The coal share across the EU fell to 9.2% in 2025. Ten years ago, coal made up a 25% of EU electricity generation.

19 EU countries now have less than 5% coal (and no, its not being swapped for gas).

Coal is on the way out...
