Here’s a little story ‘bout the status quo

Stranger Things haters: the Russia stuff in season 4 is clearly just anti-Soviet propaganda!

Stranger Things fans: The Russia stuff in season 4 is a reference to the prominence of Russian bad guys in 80s genre movies

The Duffer Brothers: man Chernobyl was a good show . . .

In 2008, when I was home from college for winter break, after I decided to come out to my parents but a few days before doing so, I went to see Gus Van Sant’s Milk, which included his exhortation to gay people everywhere to come out as an act of collective political power and a rejection of silence.
on Heated Rivalry Reddit there are fans saying the book “unintentionally” “frames the closet as bad” & “romanticizes” being out & the one thing the show ‘improves’ is using depictions of homophobia to show “the closet isn’t bad” b/c “it primarily exists for the safety” of queer people. 🤯

Genuinely very poignant rumination on the passage of time and fleetingness of life and, for the best, doesn't even attempt to wrap up every loose end. Ironically I think it probably does more with Stargate's terminally low budget than a lot of the other more explosive finales do
Hitting play on the last episode of Stargate SG-1

"isn't winnable" for who?? every major tech company has been facing escalating societal backlash for years, to the point where there's a growing movement of young people back towards previously obsolete analogue options. we're winning hard enough to make you crash out about it
what if instead of being anti-tech to a degree that isn’t winnable, those who have (sometimes very legitimate) concerns instead chose to empower themselves through technology instead of resisting it? could this be anything?
i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills

Stargate is one of those really remarkably solid franchises. SG-1 is a good show for over two hundred episodes of its run; a remarkable feat by itself. Atlantis is fun. Universe is a big swing that stumbles but hits its groove before it was cancelled. And well; can’t win ‘em all

Some bad news. The great film and culture writer Nathan Rabin was in a serious car accident. He is expected to recover, but he has a rough path ahead. Now is a great time to buy his new book (I just did, looks cool!) - a thorough investigation of movies about movies.

This may well be true but the more immediate issue with this slogan is it's incredibly unclear. It could be about bootstraps, it could be someone describing how hard it is to play Smash Bros
Yeah the long and short of it is that the entire country is utterly nihilistically cynical about the classical "bootstrap prosperity" pitch and the Dem leadership class is still completely hung up on it because the scam did work for so long and they want it to keep working.
“Strong floor, no ceiling” is the type of slogan that resonates with wealthy centrist political commentators, not everyday people who are actually your voters. What does that mean to someone who is struggling to afford rent, groceries, insurance? This is why Zohran’s policy slogans were so effective

Watching Bad Guys, the Stargate episode cowritten by Ben Browder and this is the most Farscape episode of Stargate. Even more than the one where Claudia Black ties Ben Browder to a bed

Wrote too many words about Wake Up Dead Man, which I believe is the best of the Knives Out trilogy and Rian Johnson’s most vulnerable film. It really resonated with me as someone who left the church but has complicated feelings about faith.
