CBP chief Bovino has confirmed that the officers who executed Alex Pretti in the street yesterday are not only *not on administrative leave,* they have all been reassigned to other jurisdictions and are all on the street today.

This is totally unheard of for any officer-involved shooting

and the violence is a kind of proof that they do not have sufficient power
the answer to “why are you trying to intimidate and scare me?” is always “because they can’t just do the thing.”

an individual may revel in the bullying itself, but no SYSTEM would waste the time and energy if they could just… do it

it’s a low-power method of control

But these fascists, like many fascists and other authoritarians, confuse the pageantry of violence for power - they imagine that the state with armed men walking the streets is strong. But only a weak government needs to put armed men in the streets to exert power.

A strong government has no need.

For those unfamiliar, in On Violence, Arendt points out that the ability to dish out violence is often confused for power - the ability to get compliance without violence.

Successful governance relies almost entirely on power, because violence is expensive and limited.

are they. . . supposed to leave their small kids at home, unattended? is that what's wrong with that man? neglect and malnutrition that stunted his emotional and physical development?
Bovino framing performing basic acts of parenting like transporting your children as using them as human “shields” is a tell and red flag.

These people see themselves as engaged in war, not immigration enforcement.
Bovino: "When you choose to use your five-year-old child as a shield to evade law enforcement, that is a choice that someone makes…"

If the human shield language brings to mind the IDF, there’s a reason for that:

The BBC just described what’s going on in Minneapolis as a ‘crackdown on illegal immigration’. Honestly guys, that’s not what this is - it’s a crackdown on dissent, a punishment, repression of the general population. I wish they’d stop just parroting Trump regime propaganda.

bro, I remember when you tried way too hard to cooperate with these people in the name of bipartisanship. you are not the man for this moment.
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
