this reminds me of the diner cook on Hell's Kitchen who knew nothing about fine dining cooking or ingredients, but she was the only one who could cook quail eggs sunny side up.

I hope she's out there doing great.

One factor that impedes a lot of young people's attempt to learn home cooking, if they didn't get a foundation at home, is that fast food joints use custom tools, mechanized processes, and strict formulas for how to Make Official Thingy, so they don't learn how to use home kitchens or adapt recipes.

The thing about big restaurant chain food is that the entire business model requires cooking to become deskilled labor.

You need to deskill labor in order to make employment precarious, to make it easy to drop an employee for any reason you want.

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

when you are talking about people in aggregate, I suspect the vast majority of cis people do not give a single shit about being called cis, so no, I don't think we should permit a loud, annoying, bigoted minority call the shots for the rest of us.

uh, helping people should always come from a desire to respect them and ensure they have full dignity? shifting language to be more respectful (if that is actually desired by the target of that language) doesn't keep you from doing the other work; it reminds you why you are doing it.

woo! my Hemoglobin A1C is the best it's been since I did my preliminary blood work to get my POTS diagnosis.

I mean, a lot of folks have a tendency towards self-sabotage like procrastination because they are scared of having failure hung on their efforts, but doing a marathon without training for it is just bonkers.

If you run a marathon without training, you get to brag about it. If you don't finish, well, you didn't train so you didn't really fail.

People want to be able to say they wrote a song, or a book, or a screenplay, or a beautiful drawing. But they don't want the work that actually entails.

There's a social media trend of people attempting to run marathons with zero training and a take that really resonated with me is doing this means that you never really fail. I think the AI people have a similar mentality. They want to be able to say they have done a thing without doing it
