HAPPENING NOW: A group of protesters have reportedly taken over the intersection on Beacon Hill where someone on a bike was killed by a hit-and-run driver early this morning.

I'm not on the scene yet, but was sent this photo from Beacon Avenue and Stevens Street.

Legislators in Trenton should vote against the e-bike bill because it:
1) is a de facto ban on Citibike and other popular bike share programs in NJ;
2) puts the livelihoods of many restaurants at risk; and
3) makes low-cost transportation unaffordable and inaccessible.

From 2.4 million rides in 2019 to 8.1 million (projected) in 2025, with a goal of 14 million by 2030.

They plan to add 2,500 regular bikes and another 2,500 e-bikes in that timeframe.

They’re targeting certain station densities too.

At the NJ Bike Walk summit today, great to hear NJ DOT commissioner Fran O'Connor commit to 1) revisiting the $11B Turnpike widening into Jersey City in light of the overwhelming community opposition, and 2) commitment to zero road deaths by 2040. Bravo 👏

AND it’s better land-use & infrastructure decisions, reprioritizing space & budgets, accessible streets, & smart pricing mechanisms.

We invented the problem of suburbs, people drive everywhere, constantly. They became miserable, so now we invent the solution, your car will drive everywhere. OR another solution - stick with me here - no amazing new technology needed: travel by trains and buses, walk, shop, meet people, be free.
I hope you like gridlock!

And also really happy I was the first in NYC to make videos actively campaigning for double-wide bike lanes. So glad the cranks hate me forever and let me know they do often.
