We warned you that self-driving cars would just create self-driving traffic jams, and here they are.

The car industry has no solution to the shortage of space in cities. Public transit, cycling, and walking are all part of the answer, but cars are not.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

E-Yikes.
The importer, Rad Power Bikes Inc., of Seattle, Washington has refused to agree to an acceptable recall. Given its financial situation, Rad Power Bikes has indicated to CPSC that it is unable to offer replacement batteries or refunds to all consumers.

Wow! Like I Sky'd this morning, a lot of people ride Rad Power Bikes.

"De-protecting people on bikes and e-scooters does not support their safety. Moreover the notion that the lack of turn lanes at 18th/Wabash is causing congestion seems dubious, since these streets have relatively low traffic volumes."
Sad to see a project under way halted in favor of danger.
Ald. Dowell is forcing CDOT to tear out portions of already installed bike lane protection on 18th, including Chicago's first protected intersection.

The weakest link of any active transportation infrastructure network is where it falls apart at the intersections.

You can have all the raised, separated, straight bike lanes you want, but if all protections are surrendered at the conflict zones (intersections), safety and efficiency are lost.

I wonder if drivers are starting to get the message about blocking bus stops thanks to the new tickets issued from CTA bus cameras. This morning I saw the bus stop at Dearborn/Adams occupied by buses with no car blockage. :) #Chicago

Not cool. Too often people who bike are treated with begrudging accommodation, if not outright hostility when simply trying to be. Please do better Amtrak.
very funny to be scolded by a train conductor for having my bike in the wrong place, showing him the literal rule written on the amtrak website showing that i have my bike in the only place it is allowed to be, and being told that we’ll have to “agree to disagree”

You should be able to mess up your bicycle route in Chicago and still end up on a street with a bike lane

A local car activist said SBC is a mouthpiece for CDOT. Sure, John and Steven worked at the City's bike program many years ago, and we cheerlead good City projects. But we also point out flaws in CDOT's designs, like we did in this piece on Milwaukee Avenue last month.

We don't have to guess about the positive impact biking and public transit have on cities. Paris is revealing how to substantially reduce motor vehicle reliance.
Ridership on Paris region transit systems is now generally at or higher than pre-pandemic levels. Bike use is much higher than pre-pandemic.

At the same time, car traffic in Paris and on its ring highway is substantially lower than it was pre-pandemic. www.institutparisregion.fr/mobilite-et-...

While U.S. cities continue to improve their bicycle infrastructure it is happening too slowly and we've fallen well behind cities in countries that have modernized their transportation infrastructure much more efficiently.

Sharing this again just because I love it so much. #justaminute

Car drivers who block cycle lanes for “just a minute” force people on bikes into car traffic. It’s dangerous, it’s selfish, it’s illegal (NZ) and it deserves the mocking it gets in this protest action.

We absolutely should. I talked about this at the Illinois Bicycle Summit a few years ago. This would make a real difference and would likely enlist the insurance industry in making drivers safer to protect their bottom line.
We should copy the Dutch law that always makes car drivers responsible when they hit a cyclist. Not only would it reduce the number of accidents, it would speed up court cases.

Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.
