Have we considered setting the IOC adrift on a small raft in the middle of the ocean? I feel as if it might fix some things. Keep them supplied with food, water, and sunscreen, sure, just... away with them. Far away.

I wonder how much the journalists at the Washington Post might have softened this inevitable blow if, instead of helping Trump take and keep power, they had worked together to form independent newsrooms dedicated to ethical journalism.

When a newspaper begins printing fascist apologia, how long do journalists continuing to work there remain "good"?

People focusing on the scope of the betrayal and her moderate reaction seem to be missing two things:

1) She is wealthy and wanted to remain wealthy, therefore

2) She kept her ex-husband's secrets and stood by silently as children were trafficked.

She's not a victim, she's a co-conspirator.
In an interview with NPR, Melinda French Gates confirmed that she ended her marriage with Bill Gates because of allegations contained in the Epstein files.

So, first, holy shit, and second, does anyone else remember Will Stancil saying everyone should calm down because we were never going to lose Roe v Wade and no one would suffer any real harm if we did?

We need to hang these comments from his neck like albatri. 🧐
Anyway almost every organizer from BLM is dead now

Poverty. My grandfather's family came from the shores of Lake Como, the most beautiful lake in the world, where they *really* don't like poor people cluttering up their views. My grandmother was Sicilian, and apparently there was some kind of conflict. So poverty with a side of an unhappy Mafia Don.
Genuinely curious: If your family is American, what brought them here?

At least I know I'm safe because I use incognito mode! (imagine a superhero-cape-blowing-in-the-very-dramatic-wind emoji, but sarcastic)
People have NO idea how much personal data they generate constantly and how much it can be used to predict your exact behaviors, interests, and discussion topics. You are being tracked and profiled unless you take steps to prevent it. It is not being done by your phone listening to you 24/7.

Uh... If you can win a Tony for contributions that don't even get your name on the play's Wikipedia page, and a Grammy for someone else's music, then I'm going to start claiming awards based on the movies I've watched. 🧐
Steven Spielberg has won his first ever Grammy and achieved EGOT status.

My mom went to an Air Force high School in Germany. As a senior, she knew of a freshman named Priscilla. She remembers watching limousines pull up to the school so this 14-year-old child could "date" an adult man.

That man is the King of Rock and Roll, and we call that child rape a love story.

reddit had its infamous 'jailbait' community online until late 2011

all of this shit was just out in the open, it was awful
I feel like maybe it’s a function of everyone online being born in 2002 but I don’t think most people realize how openly and explicitly pedophilic american culture was until like… maybe 10 years ago

People making jokes about this might want to consider that they are also mocking the wife Gates passed the STD to, and someone who in the best case scenario was a sex worker who couldn't refuse clients with STDs, and more probably an underage victim of sex trafficking.
Bill Gates allegedly caught an STD when he cheated on then-wife Melinda Gates, newly released emails in the Jeffrey Epstein files revealed.

It's almost funnier knowing that since it's Norwegian (and should be Jo Nesbø, btw, shame on Netflix), it's Detective Hoo-leh. 😁
These fraught times call for a show with what is either an intentionally or unintentionally hilarious title, and which I will be talking about for the rest of the year

If this quisling bullshit unites @democrats.org, then every Democrat so united needs to be primaried and turfed out of office and politics in general.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

This is very cool and also an object lesson in why alt text is good. These are all circular logos with a bird in the phoenix rising posture of the Rebel Alliance logo. Unfortunately I can't identify the birds. Alt text shares useful information for people with and without visual impairments alike.
Several state citizens have created Rebel Alliance logos using their state bird. Here are a few. Share yours if I missed any. Here is New York, Maine, and Arizona

What the hell?

This misleading headline seems carefully designed to reduce confidence in Wikipedia as it fights for its continued existence as the Last Unenshittified Website. They're just making "AI" companies pay for what they've been doing all along. So why present it this way? 🧐

Because someone I follow is enthusing about it, I feel the need to call mournfully into the void:

"Chiropractic" is not medicine. It is a spiritualist hoax turned into fake medicine because that's more profitable. At best it releases endorphins from the damage it inflicts, which can be severe.

I've never opened ChatGPT for any purpose whatsoever, and never will. And I'm presently in a place where I cannot write, because my 24/7 migraine gets worse with any mental or physical activity. Stealing from writers is not writing.

Repost this with your home river!

I partly grew up near the Monocacy River in MD, though I wasn't very outdoorsy so I can't really claim it. And an honorable mention to the Everglades, the River of Grass, and its resident alligators who occasionally tried to eat me. 😁

Thirty-plus years I've been predicting that treating Darth Vader and other villains as protagonists, and favoring the aesthetics of evil, would lead us to very dark places, and being derided for it. When I say I hate being right, this is what I mean.
Damn, sure is a good thing we've all agreed to not examine and critique the pop culture we consume in light of the world we live in. Excellent decision, really saves us a lot of discomfort.

I've been thinking about this a bit lately, and the conclusion I've reached is that obviously saying "fuck" is no reason to clutch pearls, but I would also like elected officials to avoid it. Faux outrage be damned, but it's so often empty and performative.

To wit: What is Frey actually *doing*?
People out there annoyed at politicians saying “fuck” should spend a little more time fighting fascism and a lot less time policing the usage of a word you can hear in a PG-13 movie.
