Well. Another year, another social media application...I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️

At any rate, I made the call to mothball the "micro-blogging" account over at the website formerly known as Twitter.

Finally decided to set this up. We'll see how long this lasts.

Important to remember that not only did we pass #SB79, the biggest transit-oriented upzoning bill ever, we also passed a clean CEQA exemption for new multifamily infill housing.

This is, bar none, the biggest year in state action on housing policy reform in California history. Not even close.

🚨HUGE HOUSING NEWS🚨

@cagovernornewsom.bsky.social has signed SB 79 into law! 🥳

SB 79 means that big cities who don't plan for apartments, condos, and other multi-family homes near transit will have some of their land upzoned by the State.

This is a huge deal, BUT our work isn't done 👀

This gives me hope. That Calif can get serious about climate. That young people and new immigrants to Calif might have same privileges I did. That we can make transit work. And that we transit advocates can learn from this phenomenal work by housing activists

[VICTORY ALERT] Governor Newsom has signed SB 79, which will make it legal to build multi-family housing near high quality transit!

Couldn't be prouder of my friends at @yimbyaction.bsky.social for their tireless organizing and tenacity in pushing to build the movement that supported @scottwiener.bsky.social in getting this across the finish line.

We say YES to more homes, and we say YES to ending the housing shortage!

I appear to have tagged the wrong Newsom account...again 😩

THANK YOU GOVERNOR @governor.ca.gov!

IT IS DONE! @gavinnewsom.bsky.social signed @scottwiener.bsky.social’s SB79 into law!

California has officially taken a big step towards setting statewide zoning standards and actually meaningfully tackling the rules that get in the way of our chronic housing shortage 🙏🏽🏗️🏠

And I cannot forget to thank the GOAT of housing, my State Senator @scottwiener.bsky.social for pushing, and negotiating, and fighting and advocating for not only current Californians who want to see the state actually tackle our astronomical housing costs, but for future Californians as well 🏳️‍🌈💙🏬

Massive thanks goes to California Governor @gavinnewsom.bsky.social for signing this monumental state bill to reform the rules and codes that stand in the way of building the homes that we need 🎉🥳🎊

I've spent the last 8 months of my life working to pass #SB79. It will be transformative for housing in California, and is one of the best things I'll probably ever get to do.

As of this morning, it's officially law; now it's time to drink!

Thank YOU Senator @scottwiener.bsky.social for your tenacity, your courage, your grace, and your leadership.

Future generations of Californians will immeasurably be better off thanks to this step towards addressing our housing shortage.

MAJOR NEWS: @GavinNewsom signed SB 79, my bill allowing more housing near public transit — rail, subway, rapid bus.

It’s a huge step for housing in California. It’ll create more homes, strengthen our transit systems & reduce traffic & carbon emissions.

Thank you, Governor!

I'll say it again and again and again:

STATE LAW GETS THE GOODS

Thank you @scottwiener.bsky.social for passing bills like SB 423 so that proposals like this one can actually move forward and get built and not get bogged down in reams of red tape:

Dropped my ballot off at City Hall yesterday, already got the message it’s been received and counted. Don’t forget to turn in those ballots and vote yes on 50. It’s literally the only question, let’s get this done

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

This has nothing to do with crime. This is an attempt to crush political dissent.

Never before, in our entire 250 year history, has the military or immigration agents been used like this. It's dystopian, illegal, and it should stop.

Our rents are spiking because it turns out people leaving during COVID was not a durable strategy for long-term affordability. Who knew? If we want our rents to stay flat (or, dare to dream, fall), we need to build more homes www.sfchronicle.com/realestate/a...

Ballot drop-off locations are now open. You don’t have to wait until November to vote!

If you’re voting by mail, we recommend returning your ballot before October 31st to ensure it is postmarked by Election Day, November 4, 2025.

Bottom line: VOTE EARLY!

I am pretty convinced that the way we fund many things in the US is largely broken. Non-profits, affordable housing, transit projects, and numerous other social goods rely on deeply fragmented funding, where each funding source comes with its own strings. Funding is always on the edge.

"...since San Francisco has added little housing since the pandemic began, the city seems to be exemplifying a common warning of housing advocates: when demand comes back, so do the prices."
