There's also a shit ton of secrets, it makes replaying the game beyond just the obvious rogue like stuff really rewarding and fresh for a while. This might be the most tight modern belt scroller I've played in a while, well done Guard Crush Games and Supamonks. 🙏

It also does the exact thing that I prefer in a beat 'em up, which is having a ton of levels but making them a wide(and I mean, wide) variety of branching paths rather than an overly long linear sequence. This game's run length is perfect, no matter which split in the path you take.

About the only thing I don't love is the passive tree. It both kindaaa soft gates progress, but it's also really easy to max out so it's existence feels a biiiit pointless? Not enough to drag the game down though, it's so fun and I love all the variations on each run so far.

Even as someone who's getting fatigued on roguelikes, Absolum is just a sublime belt scroller. Definitely give it a spin if you enjoy Shadows Over Mystara or Dragon's Crown.

Shout outs to building a pauper cube, effectively making it so I don't have to spend a fucking shitwad of money to keep up with the game!

What's so interesting is that this isn't what I'd consider a "horror movie", not in the traditional sense, but these tracks would fit right into a Silent Hill game. The persistent, eerie guitar work in all these tracks just stuck with me long after the watch.

Thinking about Tron Ares's sound issues made me reflect on what new movie had the best score this year. I almost went with Sinners, and that's #1 depending on the day of the week but right now? Easily Bobby Krlic's hauntingly beautiful work on Anemone.

It's just so fascinating that they've been trying to chase this service game boom when they have two long running MMORPGs that are constantly printing money for them.

Yeah it's frustrating knowing that 50% of the Dissidia sub series is no longer playable. I really liked the PSP games and Opera Omnia, I just wish it wasn't relegated to the "disposable service game" mines. 😔

And I just want to say please if you want to play the new one go for it, cool. I don't think you should be ashamed of that, I did it with OO after all. Just be careful & understand going in that they have a bit of a reputation, that's all! 🙏

I played n' really liked Opera Omnia, it had a fun and thriving community. Despite all that it wasn't enough, and it doesn't look like they are planning on releasing an offline version anytime soon. I really don't want to get invested like that again when it could just have the plug pulled again.

Not trying to contribute to the new Dissidia dehype but, Square has proven time and time again that they will just take a game offline if they don't think enough people are playing it. Even if I did play a lot of Gacha, stuff like that would make me hesitant in trying any service endeavor from them.
