Otters has remained tier 0 or 1 through metas with Dimir, Mono Red, Gruul, Pixie, Domain, monoW, Bounce house, Serragon, Oculus, Prowess, Cauldron and to this day. The deck is always the most broken thing in standard and just avoids bans by being hard to play.

Had a match in the challenge the other day where game 1 I had presented infinite ground creatures which didn’t beat a siren after they cast 2 boroids (this was t4, btw) and g2 they had 3 ouroboroids on the board on their t4 but badgermole cub is fair

riddler is a great sb card but I don't think I want it main, it's just expensive and clunky and splash portal wasn't worth it.

This is a really well written and defended piece about the value of competitive magic in a casual world.
Feels appropriate this piece becomes free as I’m packing for Thanksgiving-then-Worlds. For 15 years I loved competitive MTG not because I thought I’d get here, but because of the person it helped me become.

i'm convinced learning the why is the only way to actually improve at anything
Maybe at some point I'll try and make some content on this but I've internalized so many lessons and also frankly would be far too verbose to do it right because there's so many conditionals to each step but like

I cannot echo this enough. I learned this lesson when I got my first rc qual via a now friend getting a match loss in the final round of a 5k, and I now never say anything remotely construable as collusion without talking to a judge first. Even in NY, which is fairly liberal w/ prize splits.
I was told this when I was 12 with no other context and have never gotten DQed because I have alway went and gotten a judge and run my exact words by them before saying anything. I think that's as good as you can get for making things accessible to newer players

Went 1-1 at highroller prerelease with Boros creatures and removal, went 7-6 vs @jasoniltg.bsky.social before the first round ended and lost a very tight match vs an esper draw 2 pile with a lot of decision points. Format seems really fun, super excited to dive in!

In a 1000 player tournament, there’s 1 winner and 999 people who didn’t win. Because of this, it’s really important to separate your goals from your tournament record, and recognize that playing well, on its own, isn’t sufficient for a good result. On a given day, lots of good players go 0-2 or 0-3.
