And it looks very much (at least to me) as if this is the only thing they've said about Russia because they want to be able to reframe the relationship as a partnership but it's not yet possible because they haven't finalised their deal with the Kremlin and because of domestic pushback.

Strategic stability between the two states with the largest number of nuclear weapons is a good aspiration because strategic instability is a threat to everyone. But it's useless or dangerous if it isn't grounded in a realistic assessment of the threat from Russia.

It's not just the lack of mentions of Russia that's striking, it's the fact Russia isn't ever mentioned as an adversary or threat. This is the first US National Security Strategy not to identify Russia as a threat since 2010, at the height of Obama's Reset policy.

The Ukraine war was never about just territory or NATO.

It was also about what happens if a nuclear power starts carving up a non-nuclear neighbor—and how the U.S. would respond.

Here's how U.S. fecklessness set the stage for nuclear proliferation around the world:

Important conversation. But the conclusion understates the case. It is not that handing Russia the huge territory that contains Ukraine’s best defenses would “not necessarily” bring peace. It is that so doing would guarantee a bloodier and longer war.

Scandalously corrupt. Any US firm that gets involved in such a deal will deserve to have sanctions imposed on it in Europe, since it will be helping Putin to rebuild his economy & his forces for their next attack.
1/ The Wall Street Journal reports that the main focus of the US-Russia peace talks is to get commercial advantage for American companies, and personal benefits for individuals linked to the Trump Administration. European officials are said to be shocked by the plans. ⬇️

Essential to torpedo Trump's Russian plan: nothing is negotiable with Russia.
The future of Ukraine and the security of Europe depend on our ability to say “no” and to act accordingly.

The power of Ukrainian democracy is a sight to behold.

And Trump wants to take millions of people from Ukrainian democracy and gift them to dictatorial Russia.

Now the new plan is a nonstarter for Russia. This whole episode was just an embarrassing and useless fire-drill.

While Trump couldn’t care less about Ukraine, he’s foolish to believe he could force an ultimatum and more foolish to not realize he’s being endlessly played by Putin.

Good to see the U.S. and Ukraine agree to a joint peace plan. However, this plan is irrelevant.

Russia never proposed a legitimate plan. The 28 point “Dim-Witt” plan was an influence operation rather than a plan for a just and lasting peace.

At the end of the day, I would readily bet that there will be no peace plan—for one simple reason, which I have often emphasized: there cannot be one with Russia.
This is not actually bad news, however, but rather the opposite—at least if Europeans prove themselves equal to the historical task.

Ever since, russia has been taking brutal revenge on Kherson, shelling it non-stop, hunting civilians in safaris, including infants, destroying critical infrastructure.

Kherson doesn't need the world to admire its invincibility.

Kherson needs actions aimed at defeating the aggressor now.
