My first job in undergrad was as the data entry clerk for public health researchers - MMRW was essential reading for everyone working in epidemiology whether studying infectious diseases or chronic conditions. Well over 100 years - and just destroyed without a thought 😢

Don't know - but ~35 years ago when N emigrated, Ontario teachers and schools were much better than the UK. But, then again, he left Thatcher's Britain, and only later did Harris take over Ontario...

Trump DOJ is now looking at ways to ban transgender Americans from owning guns. Worth noting that the Nazis did the exact same thing to the Jews. Also worth noting they have no plans to ban right wing white supremacists from owning guns, even though they commit a vast majority of all mass shootings.

My 5-year-old was happily biking ahead of us and stopped at a stop sign. We watched from 30 feet behind as an SUV sailed through their stop sign without stopping and without even slowing down or looking up. My son had the right of way. If he had gone - my heart can hardly bear thinking about it.

Call it Anti-Industrial Policy: we need is a suite of policies to nudge Americans to own and operate more little public-facing businesses. Speciality shops. Six-seater bars. Esoteric services. Restaurants serving two or three dishes. It would lower overall productivity and increase quality of life.

and if those living along these arterials dare speak up to make them safer, install bus or bike lanes in order to easily get around, and install more crosswalks, the privileged in the quiet neighourhoods riot over the seconds added to their car commute. and this is who the american city caters to.

north american zoning exists to protect wealthier homeowners who live on quiet streets in leafy suburbs from the externalities of the american city, the brunt of which is faced by renters (usually) in denser housing living on surface stroads subject to noise+air pollution, and traffic injuries👇
