Didn’t have this #WIPSnips until I worked it in this morning.
Behind the castle proper, the one being chased zigzags through the brush as Bob's torchlight catches and loses sight of him. But I can follow his path. He ducks at an opportune time, backtracks to the remnants of a separate stone building, our family mausoleum, now empty and vandalized. It’s a building I never entered as a child, never felt comfortable near it, and was never interred there myself although my death made this place my prison.

Viola wasn’t entirely sure what she’d been expecting the inner sanctum of the most important magician in Sacaan to look like, but Mortimer’s father’s study definitely wasn’t it. It wasn’t that the room itself was unimpressive – between the towering bookcases, the grand fireplace, and the heavy-curtained windows, it certainly felt like a magician’s study – but the furniture was mismatched and worn-looking, clearly chosen more for comfort than for show, and among the piles of papers and books scattered around the various flat surfaces in the room she caught sight of more than a few empty plates and discarded tea glasses. It looked like the kind of room that someone spent a lot of time in, and, more, that they didn’t feel the need to tidy up for outsiders, and she couldn’t help feeling as though she was somehow intruding into Mortimer’s family’s secrets just by being there. *I know Cyra said we were to go up and wait, but I can’t think the Archmage is going to be too pleased to find a stranger in his study, even if his son can vouch for her.* It would’ve been easier to deal with the wait in four-legged form, since then at least she could’ve curled up in front of the fire for a brief nap, but Mortimer had been very clear on the fact that, while his father was generally fairly accommodating on most things, coming face to face with either an unexpected wolf or an unexpected naked woman in his study would probably strain that to breaking point – and, as a result, she was to please stay both two-legged and clothed for the duration.

The guest room is markedly disorganized compared to the rest of the house. It looks more like an in-home office with a futon sofa bed and dresser pushed inside as an afterthought than an actual bedroom. "Not much, I know," my dad says. "Hope you don't mind." It reminds of the studio apartment he lived in before small and cluttered but there's a bed and space to put our bags, so it's more than enough. "It's perfect," I assure him. "Not the worst I've dealt with," James jokes as he drops his backpack on the futon. At least I think it's a joke.

Niamh spent much of her morning, as she always did, at work. She owned a small antiques shop, just off of the main drag of the shopping district of Concord. The shop, Legends Of Their Time, took up the first floor and the basement of her home and was laid out in the traditional antique shop jumble. People liked to hunt for their treasures, Niamh reasoned, though she always made sure the nicest and priciest things were easily accessible.

Happy Thanksgiving, world. Well, here at least. Here’s my #WIPSnips about a group of European invaders making it hard for Tomas to be thankful in the New World. But he must be thankful for something. He manages to smile…
"Qu'est-ce que tu fais ici, Tomas." Tomas didn’t answer why he was there. He managed a chuckle, then spit out blood. And maybe a tooth. His face had gone numb in spots, so he wasn’t quite sure. The Spanish buyer—the treasury representative for Rio de la Hacha, gaped at the whole appalling affair. The incompetent disorganization of these English heathens, this Protestant scum of the earth, must have been unnerving, and Tomas grinned wider. When Twide lurched forward to smack that stupid grin off of Tomas's face, Blondel intervened. "He is in my charge, boatswain. Do l'admiral's bidding." Blondel pulled Tomas aside, as Twide grumbled and led the crew to the hatches, his fingers grasping his hip for a key ring that wasn’t there.

And so miles passed. The music blared, some louder than others. Black Eyed Peas was always a hit. We even got an epic rendition of Britney Spears' "Toxic" by Ryan. He didn't miss a single syllable, and his falsetto was strangely in tune. He must have rehearsed well. Of course, I didn't get to stay quiet in my corner as a spectator for long. They started pulling me into the middle of the party. Melanie grabbed my wrists to make me clap. Vanessa insisted I told her what songs I know by heart. Don't put me in charge of DJing unless you want to ruin the atmosphere. My playlists are anything but danceable. Okay. I have to admit. I was having fun. Time sped up, devouring miles. All the energy in the car kept my eyes from closing again. Maybe this trip isn't such a bad idea after all. Nothing like a little party to drown the demons.

They were all laughing and relaxed, many of them nursing cokes or bottled water—not, I noticed, beer or any of beer’s more potent cousins, which is what I would have expected to see in a large gathering of college and high-school aged people sitting around an abandoned dam in the middle of the wilderness. I could guess at the reasons why, though I hadn’t really been given a primer on alcohol use in shifters: They either felt the alcohol would impede their ability to shift, hunt or otherwise participate in the ceremony, or (more likely) the alcohol in their bodies wouldn’t survive transformation, so what was the point.

Tiny sets right to work, rattles off a stream of consciousness information that Anne already knows—when the castle was built, the imported stones, the history of the the family and their influence on the neighboring communities. "Yes but," Anne interjects repeatedly. And Tiny carries on. "The captain had it furnished with pieces from all over the world. Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Peru. All lost after he set the place on fire and killed himself—" "—But what if he didn’t kill himself?" "—There were so many roadblocks over the business of selling off the hydroelectric plant. The politics of it. The man got depressed over it is my guess." "Would that be enough?" "Would what be enough?" "A captain in the army, an otherwise successful man. With his money and his experience in business matters, would that be enough to consider suicide?"

Our twin suns kiss the toasted land in tandem during half our solar run. Sol Prime is the one we spin around. Sol Twain is a neighbor, close enough to wreck havoc on the climate but independent of our planetary system. At least that's how the astronomer on the mountain explains it. He's an odd duck sitting up there by his lonesome, peering at the heavenly bodies and fiery balls of gaseous substances day and night; putting ink to paper in the form of equations and angles and symbols that some here in our valley might call devil language.

I have an entire series with side character drama. It’s based on a curse, and no one passes unscathed. So, in book one, the focus is on Mateo, but in later books, Esme, Tomas, Pedro or someone new takes the lead. Each has a lot going on in the background until it’s their turn. #AwesomeCharacters

They tell players not to let the highs get too high, nor the lows too low. Enjoy the victory that night, but it’s back to work the next day. Of course, easier said than done. Aiden tried to play it cool on the outside, but inside, he was elated to have such a successful debut. Around 20 minutes of ice time including some time on the power play second unit, +1, and the game winning goal… ‘Not bad,’ he smiled to himself, closing his eyes and letting the hot water from the shower wash over his head. The word "debut" is highlighted in green.

Thirteen of them. Thirteen little ogres with their own personalities but a shared obsession with shoes, for some reason. Quite fascinating, really, but not at all her area of expertise. Now, spriggans, she could understand. Well, not so much understand, as such, but they were plant-like creatures. Flirty knew where she was with plants. She turned over the page, back to the start of the entry, and read from the beginning, taking a sip of cold tea, regretting it, then taking another sip.
