Let’s share our work! Here’s my #PerfectProphet trilogy. A death metal atheist with a surprising gift becomes a Satanist’s target.

#SatanicPanic #horror

In the 2nd book, the MC becomes the target of a #Christian #cult.

Book 3’s theme? Redemption for the antagonist.

An excerpt from the poem below in a lavender elipse over a background of close up peacock feathers

“‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all”

Stella groped for the guns next to her, but no, shooting back would only waste ammunition and put more people in danger. And the street wasn’t wide enough to maneuver either. She hunched as low as she could and hoped as a spiderweb crack spread across the windshield.

“Don’t!” he cut her off. “Fucking cry again. Don’t. Cry. Again. I’ll go back for them tomorrow.”
She shook her head and wrung her hands in front of her body. “No, no I need them tonight. I can’t sleep without them.”
“You been sleeping without them all day—”
“But it’s different at night!”
He sighed. “Fine. I will go back and get them now. You better hope I’m back before dark. Better hope I get back safe.”
She shrugged. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll be fine here either way.”

Yeah, the nice approach flew right out the window alongside any hope that he wouldn’t be as bad as the tabloids make him seem.

We could all use a little hope these days. I’m not sure this #WIPSnips reflects that ideal, but it does have hope in it. 😬
"I know what I saw—"

"There’s no such thing as ghosts. Look at yourself! You saw your own white face in a smoke clouded mirror."

"Alright. Fine! We can’t leave them there, though—"

"And why not? They got themselves into that mess. Let them find their own way out."

"And what if they don’t?"

"With the busybodies in this town? People will notice. Eventually. They'll talk. The gossips will sow clues. And the clues will lead here. After the election, with any hope. I can see the headline already: Witch and Fortune Teller found in Haunted Castle. People will say I was right. And that they were happy they voted for me."

I reach the scarred, decomposing remains of the Dawn Lord’s castle and stand uncertainly at the front gate. The castle looms over me, as cheerful and welcoming as a condemned meat-packing plant.

I have welcome. But unwelcome was what the search hit first, and I thought it was a better choice. #WIPSnips
If I could, I would chase after this unwelcome couple, shouting after them, "how dare you trespass here and stir up the strife that haunts me so! How dare you!" But I can do nothing. I watch them leave. I watch, as the shadow of a broken heart casts its presence against the outer wall of the castle, the moonlight bright and full. These trespassers can sense they’re being watched, although they don’t catch the shadow play.

"I don’t like this place," Josephine says to James as they reach their vehicle. "It gives me the creeps."

A glass display case rested behind the mahogany desk to his right. It housed his other prized possession, a book bound in black leather with ornate gold detailing. The words “Book of Evans” and the Holy Rose were embossed on the front of the tome.

"It was his prized possession. An actual Earth book, made of paper from Earth trees, written by a man who lived an Earth life…”

The pages were yellowed and crisp to the touch, and fanned wide against a spine lined with creases. It had been well- and often read.

No prize in the current WIP. It’s back to the series for this #WIPSnips
Tomas willed Pedro to read his mind before Pedro willed back with clamped lips and popped eyebrows to play along. "I’m sorry…señor," Tomas emphasized the señor part hard, "pero don Luis said nothing about spices—"

"I know what I’m doing!" The whisper had a touch of seething. Pedro found his senses and continued. "Trust me." He turned back to the merchant full of his young—rogue charm again. He wafted up the aroma of the spices the woman had to offer like appreciating the smell of an open rose. "Mmm! Tangy! But I’m shopping for something else… Iron. Scraps of it. Who do you recommend?"

They left later with a pungent satchel of newly purchased, so-called spices, as Pedro led the way carrying some sort of ensaïmada covered with sugar. Pedro munched as he strolled. Smith sniffed at the bag of spices and nearly sneezed before he pulled the drawstring tight. "You have your pastry," Smith shouted ahead. "Now where is my prize?" He pulled the pack mule along.

"So good! Would you like a taste?" Pedro broke off a piece of the flaky, spiraled bun then handed it back. Smith gobbled it up, licked his fingers clean. "And you?" He offered a hunk to Tomas.

"You are a child." Tomas took the offering anyway as they turned down a lesser travelled street.

My ghosts are the ones weaving the narrative—trying to lead my MC to the clues to solve a murder from the barrier of their ghostly realm. They both have a stake in the case being solved though. Even if they are dead.

The struggle is real! Especially if you (me) have this insane belief that you can’t use the same names twice in a complete new story—lol— I have a historical fic series where new characters who were real historical figures had the same names, and my head nearly exploded!

My story has ghost/mortal interactions too. They’re always fun.
