Hi. I'm a librarian. More importantly, I have five cats. This is where I get political and talk LIS/Info Literacy. Fun and silly crap on Tumblr, cats on Insta. Belvedia on both.

Gonna do a fun little 10 facts about me thing.
1. I'm a Virgo and an Elder Millennial. I don't take either very seriously.
2. I currently live with my fiancé and our five cats. We are not having kids.
3. I'm perimenopausal. Yay.
4. I'm T2D and on Mounjaro. I've lost 60 lbs over the past two years.

As October begins, we contemplate how the sea wind had its way with this now-fungal saint.
scary sea-weathered saint on the church near Hartlepool headland (body of saint is heavily eroded down to a veined or boxwork-like underlying structure of the stone, which looks like weird branching fungus).

This job is often a lonely grind, but I'll tell you that there are few better feelings than when you finish a book that manages to complete a great character arc *and* bookend the beginning of the series perfectly.

Standing up to fascism is always the right choice.

Rejecting censorship is always the right choice.

Fighting for marginalized and vulnerable communities is always the right choice.

A call to bookshops when setting up banned books displays. Feature alive authors who could be struggling due to this. Yes, Stephen King gets banned but he's doing ok financially. So many others are not.

Just a reminder that Banned Books Week isn’t about selling more copies of 1984. It’s about keeping authors and teachers and librarians safe and making sure all of us have the freedom to read widely. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

Their goal is revenge against every scientist who told them something they didn't want to hear or made them feel inferior by knowing more than they do.

WTF is their goal? Small government means every man for themselves when the next catastrophe hits? What is the point? Government isn’t a business, it’s a service for the people. You’re saving minimal money with these cuts and only hurting literally everyone

I really like Pitzer.

That said the whole frog analogy here really puts in perspective the whole “eat your frog” working schematic I have had to follow at multiple jobs. Why am I swallowing frogs in the first place?

But where it really fucks up is that its been fed so much garbage with no quality control so it has no idea what is good writing and what isn't. You could get phrases from Steinbeck and Austen but you could also get stuff from My Immortal or an Onision book garbled in there.
catladybel.bsky.social
Syntax and grammar and word choice can have right and wrong answers and in that sense it could be helpful. But the moment it tries to convey and abstract meaning, things get fucky because you need a human brain for that.

I gave AI its fair shake, because I am an information professional and knowing what tools can do is part of my field. If it were a version of grammar check editing that could make my transitions better, kill off my adverbs for better vocabulary, I'd use it.

But it just inserts plagiarized cliches.
faineg.bsky.social
there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually
