No one could have predicted that Trump would do all the tariffs that he repeatedly said he would do during his campaign.

Yeah man just like you I did Nazi this coming from the guy literally barking quotations from Mein Kampf on the campaign trail
I really can't overstate how badly caught off-guard the entire financial world is by this announcement. It's pretty clearly worse than the consensus worst-case scenarios.
Have been preparing for this day for a while and coming into this morning I really thought there was a chance we had oversold what Trump was gonna do. I spent actual time thinking about it. And then the reality was SOOOOOO much dumber and worse than anyone’s expectations

It's weird to have elected leaders who say they want to crash the economy, reinstate segregation, strip human rights and create a perpetual underclass and then have people ask why are they doing this are they bad at economics ?

Anyway, remember it wasn’t Trump pushing for resegregation or snatching people off the street that caused people in the
mainstream to question this administration it was tariffs.
April 3, 2025 at 2:41 AM
Yeah man it was impossible to forecast given that the guy in charge said his plan was to destroy the economy and commit ethnic cleansing for like, the last decade
Many, many people in my mentions are speaking from hindsight and have clearly never been responsible for forecasting anything lmao.

I need the press to stop saying, "This isn’t what people voted for."

No.

It IS exactly what they voted for.

They just didn't vote for it to happen to THEMSELVES.

They were okay if it was going to happen to "THOSE people."

And THAT is the problem.

I understand why Americans want to take issue with the use of "we" here but I promise you that people outside the U.S. aren't going to treat the "good" Americans with kid gloves when shit gets real, economically or otherwise. "We" elected Trump as a country, whether we like it or not.

One thing about today's tariff shitshow is that congress could undo all this nonsense tonight and the damage would still be huge, because these actions have decisively signaled that the US is an unreliable international trading partner—and this impacts political and economic strategy worldwide.

I'm not an epidemiologist but I did have measles and guess what: it sucked. If you knowingly and intentionally put your kid through this for ideological reasons then you suck too
As someone who had measles as a kid and who is an infectious disease epidemiologist, you don’t want your kids to get measles. Don’t fall for this crap,
As a measles epidemic continues to spread, with over 500 reported cases, anti-vaccine groups are busy spreading misinformation. There are several anti-vaccine events around the country in the next month.

This. We are currently in a situation where our national defense against pathogens is on the ropes. I will continue to mask indoors in public, because I can only control my choices and not anyone else’s.
Masking discourse is on again and I’ll just say if you see people masking when few others are it’s likely because they’ve determined that for them, in that setting, the benefit of not catching (or spreading) whatever’s going around is worth the cost of masking. It’s rarely more complicated than that

Thinking about how this interacts with the disability tax and the fact that it is already more costly to be alive while disabled. I can't be the only one who's concerned about availability and affordability of my medical equipment and supplies right now.
a cost of $5k per household, per year
Trump says his tariffs will raise $6 trillion.

Assuming that's over 10 years, that's $600 billion per year.

There are 134 million households, so this is nearly $5,000 per household per year.

And it's like a sales tax, so it's a flat tax. A huge hit to the budgets of working folks.
