I spent 20 minutes trying to force myself not to write a post that would have gotten me a visit from the FBI. So new plan, every time I feel the need to write one of these posts, I’m just putting an unpopular opinion in this thread. Ideally one of these will get me run off BlueSky so I stop posting.
A political drama about the court of Justinian and Theodora, with Procopius shown as a fork-tongued snake (justice for Theodora!)
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

I thought I did not want to read anything else about Nuzzi, but I was wrong and Hollinger was right.

Don’t spill a drop. I am a river. You are my canyon. I mean to flow through you. I mean to subdue and tame you, Charlie Brown.
I like you, Charlie Brown. That is why I will kill you last.
I’m not the guy you kill, Charlie Brown. I’m the guy you buy!

They literally say he violated terms of service by committing suicide.
“OpenAI’s court filing argued that the harms in this case were at least partly caused by Raine’s ‘failure to heed warnings, obtain help, or otherwise exercise reasonable care,’ as well as the ‘failure of others to respond to his obvious signs of distress.’”
OpenAI denies allegations that ChatGPT is to blame for a teenager's suicide
Adam Raine's family sued the AI company in August. On Tuesday, OpenAI said in a new court filing that it isn't responsible for the teen's death.

I was on board with the Covid stimulus checks, the economy was going to crater and we had to do something, BUT - it destroyed politics in a way that I did not forsee happening.

People got extremely angry that it was a one-time payment, even if the people angry wouldn't say that was the reason.

If 2000s NBA players had to play at the pace of today’s games their limbs would fly off their bodies. I’m a bit tired of people my age pretending the reason there are more injuries in today’s games is that older players were tougher. #NBASky

Thinking about this more, I think all these people are all in a spiritual crisis. They have all the money in the world, and when they find out it doesn’t bring them what they want they think someone is preventing it, instead of realizing money won’t get them what they want.
Musk, Thiel, Trump, the founder of Overstock - a non trivial portion of why the US (and “the west” more broadly) feels like it’s backsliding is that the people with all the money are slowly going crazy.

In reverse order, one song per artist.

Guided By Voices, "Game of Pricks"

Drunkenly shouting G!B!V! at a show remains one of my favorite things to do.

You: this is stupid, people don’t care that everyone is in sweats, they care that flying has a ton of delays and cancellations

Me: why would you wear a suit with no tie if your message was that people should dress up?
Trump's Transportation Secretary on how to improve air travel:

"People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly... We want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season, help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

Jawbox, "Savory"

Lots of indie bands sign to a major and lose their way, but for Jawbox it just gave them enough of a production budget to really nail the sound they were going for.

Alice In Chains, Would

The movie that defined the early 90s was Singles, because of that soundtrack. And “Would?”was the cornerstone of that album.

I think I somewhat disagree with the article's framing - many people view computers as an 'objective' source and will respond to it in a way they will not towards a human, despite the fact genAI is extremely biased (if not always in the ways their designers intended)

This is a very niche post, but - there is simple no worse feeling than when you quickly pick a treasure in the treasure room in Slay the Spire, and then realize it was the last time to get the relic before the boss fight. An entire run, ruined!

My name is James Connolly, I didn’t come here to die
But to fight for the rights of the working man
And the small farmer too
Protect the proletariat from the bosses and their screws
So hold on to your rifles, boys, and don’t give up your dream
Of a Republic for the working class, economic liberty
