Wow, that 5 year old must be really into politics.
NEW: Five days after Andrew Cuomo’s mayoral campaign accepted a maximum $2,100 donation from Rabbi Marc Schneier in March, the campaign accepted a far more unusual gift: $250 from the rabbi’s five-year-old son.

The Ethicist | I'm really enjoying the centrist and conservative freak-out about Zohran Mamdani. Is it ok if I just vote for whatever candidate triggers centrists and conservatives the most in the 20228 Democratic primary?

the base salary for members of the house is $174k, which they are still getting during the shutdown. the speaker gets $223k. these are the same people trying to shame others for eating without working.
Speaker Johnson officially announces another week off for the House. That means 20 work days in 18 weeks since July 4. The House is currently scheduled to be out the week of Nov. 10. It's not clear if that will change.

nearly all of trump's belief system can be traced to his habitual watching of fox news. but the media and most democrats dont want to consider this and so they cant understand what is going on in his head. if you watch fox for any length of time, trumps world view makes clear "sense"

New from 404 Media: you can't refuse to be scanned by ICE's new facial recognition app, according to internal DHS document I obtained. Photos captured by the app are stored for 15 years, including U.S. citizens. We've seen officers scanning faces w/ phones on streets

the thing is, even a lot of SNAP recipients believe this -- even people who are in a community where a lot of people get SNAP sometimes believe this, because they imagine that, yeah, *they* need SNAP but *most* of the people who need SNAP are Urban Blacks.
im tired of repeating this but

- trump is an addicted fox news watcher
- on fox, the "average" snap recipient is a poor black person. the kind of person the network mocks as a loud, fat, mooch screaming for their "obama phone"
- thats why trump and the other gopers say its a dem (BLACK) issue

correct. like with immigrants against immigration its a very strong "we did it the right way -- THOSE people are scamming the system" sentiment

Keep 'em coming
(AP) — Two federal judges ruled nearly simultaneously on Friday that President Donald Trump's administration must to continue to fund SNAP, the nation's biggest food aid program, using contingency funds during the government shutdown.

This is really appalling: Rep Adam Smith tells me that in a briefing, Pentagon officials said they reserve the right to kill people who are "affiliated" with their list of "narco-terror groups."

But under questioning, they wouldn't define what "affiliated" means!

News on Trump boat bombings --> Rep Adam Smith, top Dem on Armed Services, tells me GOPers are failing to press for testimony from the top Pentagon official who recently resigned, potentially over the strikes.

Appallingly, we may never hear from him.

Trump Boat Bombings Worsen as New Horror Shakes Experts: “Alarm Bells”
Remember the Southern Command admiral who resigned two weeks ago? Hill Republicans haven’t heard from him—and they don’t apparently want to.

In Argentina's battle to repeal abortion ban, message deployed for the *conflicted* was "Salvemos miles de vidas." Yes, claiming the mantle of LIFE despite oppo rhetoric. Medical providers talked about how abortion will allow them to save lives.

The first time I did a big polling/message testing project (2011) I was absolutely floored to learn that pollsters, usually stats or poli sci trained, write messages!!! Not writers or journalists or people who know how to make things memorable & convey emotion.

When we ask voters about "raising the min wage," most of them approve. When we ask about "everyone can put food on the table," way more people approve - with more vigor. Approval doesn't equal would act on this & you need that in campaigns.

New York Times editorial board has compiled "a list of 12 markers of democratic erosion." www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

This is what "not the odds, but the stakes" was all about.

During the 2024 campaign, those 12 markers could have been in place and operating to guide news coverage everywhere.

I'm not sure if it's still happening, but earlier this year, there were protestors outside the Heritage HQ calling everybody who walked out the door Nazis.
1. A watershed moment.

The President of the Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action, Kevin Roberts , has announced that the organization is standing by Tucker Carlson in the aftermath of Tucker’s interview with neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes.

This isn’t Kevin bending his knee to Trump…this is something new
Democrats triangulate on poll-tested issues. Republicans shout incoherently about immigrants eating dogs. Republicans win.

Dem pundits: Hey, what if we tried...triangulating on poll-tested issues!!!
