The problem with most cook books is they are filled with recipes real Americans hate. That's why I'm writing a new cook book filled with classic, popular recipes like ham & bananas and bologna and mayo cake.

Not kidding when I say they should fund the free buses by actually enforcing driving and parking rules. Walk around any neighborhood of NYC for an hour and you will witness ~30 ticketable offenses. Everyone will get around faster if people follow the rules. Iron-fist it. Cameras on every stoplight.

Trump is filling his government with Nazis, consolidating authoritarian power, and eroding democracy at every chance.

And yet these 86 House Democrats voted for a right-wing messaging amendment to say that the real authoritarians are the socialists.

Pathetic.

I don't see any good reason why the fine for speeding if you get caught by a camera is significantly lower, or why you don't lose points on your license. This seems like an incredibly easy thing to fix though!
Faster license suspension and imposition of points seems like a very easy middle ground here. NY courts often plea moving violations down to parking tickets; our automated enforcement in the city doesn't impose points. (More from me on the cameras soon...)

Thinking about the article that ran in our neighborhood paper last year that argued eliminating street dining areas would solve double parking and just laughing/crying as I see cars now TRIPLE parked on our local commercial corridor
You have 1 week left to enjoy outdoor dining in NYC before they are ripped out

All else aside, free childcare is more a “goodie” for employers than employees
You guys realize that taxing people to pay for services isn't socialism, right? This is just how governments work.

Just to reinforce that words mean something, a mayor or president following laws passed by their legislatures or city councils is NOT "expanding" or "maximizing" executive power. It's using the power they have.
Going to war without authorization of Congress, that'd be executive power expansion
Lina Khan Wants to Amplify Mamdani’s Power With Little-Used Laws
Former Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan said she’s exploring ways to maximize New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s executive authority through little-used laws already in place.

Our e-cargo bike is the single best and most quality-of-life-enhancing purchase I think I've made in the past decade.

Truly revolutionised what I - someone without a driving licence, and no interest in one - can get done around the city (and outside it).
This week I wrote about the rise of the e-bike dad - this piece was originally going to run alongside the story I did in September about the bike boom in general, and we didn't have space in print, but here it is:

One thing the NYC mayoral race underscored for me is how easily the phrase "I don't feel safe" can be weaponized. It's an argument I would hesitate ever to use again, even for a good cause. I hope we can all agree that we have the right to BE safe. Maybe we should leave it at that.
