Cathedral Park #Portland dispatch. Very quiet out there on this overcast Saturday. A couple of people walking dogs. Light traffic on the bridge. Once again: no fires, no unrest. All of the shops in our little St Johns neighborhood downtown are open and it’s a normal weekend day.

The library downtown is a treasure!

Totally. It’s my #1 recommendation for late night food in PDX. Incidentally, it’s across from the Federal building where all of the protesters were in 2020, and there is no one out there. Not a single person. Not saying that that is good or bad, but it’s certainly no reason to call in the Army.

I really hope not. It’s so weird that anyone thinks Portland is experiencing any kind of disruption. Wet leaf season is almost here, so maybe we can put the feds to work clearing storm drains and slippery bike lanes.

Friday night in Downtown Portland: a play at Portland Center Stage, delicious pho at Luc Lac. The city appears to be full of interesting people having fun. Nothing burning down (at all).

Date night in Downtown #Portland part 2. Pho at Luc Lac. This restaurant is right across from the Federal Building. Zero unrest. Nothing on fire.

Date night in Downtown Portland. Larry Owens was amazing in “Primary Trust” at the Armory Theater. Buildings are made of normal stuff, nothing is on fire. Lots of people were out getting dinner. No signs of unrest.

Seeing Ms. Rachel say exactly what needs to be said to Obama is so damn refreshing
Dear President Obama,
I saw in your statement you said "Israeli families" & "the people of Gaza."
Palestinians have families, too.
This kind of language contributes to dehumanization. Dehumanization is part of what caused so many to stay silent as 20,000 children were killed in this genocide.
I've sat with wonderful Palestinian families from Gaza. They look at their children just like we look at ours - with all the love & hope in the world.
Love,
Ms Rachel

I like how the news will be like “while the President claiming Portland was ruled by a giant skeleton named Mr Nibbles is not strictly true, it does speak to the anxiety of many Americans”

Every time I see a new AI feature that I didn’t ask for and will never use, I often think, “why can’t we use all of this technology to make a proper 80’s-style bucket brigade chip reproduction? That’s what I want.” Looks like someone did it! cdm.link/ssi2100-bbd-...
A new Bucket Brigade Delay chip just dropped, the first in decades - CDM Create Digital Music
Wake up! A new BBD just dropped. It's an analog delay circuit, but a new-generation design -- the first such genuinely new chip design in decades. And that means you could argue the biggest announceme...

The advanced age of officials and their subsequent death in office has hurt the Democrats significantly in matters of routine legislating and contributed to a loss of a presidential election. When your representative is deceased it is harder for them to advocate for you.

If you’re trying to judge whether someone has a substance abuse or mental health problem, one of the questions you ask is: does the behavior cause problems in day to day functioning. The Democrats DO have a problem with elected officials expiring due to old age and/or becoming demented.

Portland is as dangerous as the Shire of the Hobbits and just as full of delicious food. As someone who lives here, the Portland discourse feels insane. It’s like being afraid to go in a Whole Foods. The town is basically a big Whole Foods theme park for PMC 30 and 40-somethings.

I’m surprised the WSJ printed this. Police reports indicate that most days, there are less than 50 protesters at the ICE facility in Portland. The max was around 200 a week or so ago. Not exactly Shays’ Rebellion. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

I just drove to 45th and Hawthorne from the river. That is 45 blocks of mixed-use retail and residential properties. People were out shopping and getting dinner. No plywood on any windows. Plenty of stores and restaurants open. Events happening, theaters showing movies. Show at the Moda Center

I just went to pick up takeout on Hawthorne. I drove past 45 busy blocks of mixed-use retail and residential properties. People were out and about. No plywood up. The employees at the burger place were chatting about their favorite bars. There was a little traffic from some event at the Moda center

Also, there has not been any unrest for years. The trend of things being boring continues.

Cathedral Park Portland unrest update: there is no unrest. The park is mostly empty except for a few dogs and their owners at the off leash area further down towards the river. #Portland

All of this stuff is crazy, but the Tom Holman $50,000 bribe-in-a-bag incident is so blatant. The boat murders are also beyond the pale… and of course the Epstein stuff…. This clip has “at long last have you no decency!” vibes.

Looking forward to the frog ferry. The bus is cool, but St Johns could use more transport options. Love that we have a city that at least makes an effort with public transportation.
cornucpoian.bsky.social
Yes! And I want a funicular railway that goes up the west hills from St Johns to Hillsboro, which should in turn have a monorail that connects the various “silicon forest” campuses in Hillsboro and Beaverton. Preferably some kind of mag-lev. Trains are the best self-driving cars.
