you know this guy is a FOR REAL photographer because he's telling the story of his brutal, unconditional arrest by federal goons and can't help but slip in a gear review
Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

For years, many of us have tried to get people to care about criminalization with only limited success. We made the point that criminalization is fascism's fuel. And I really really hope that more people now understand this.

over the course of 1871, congress held seven months of hearings on ku klux klan and other white vigilante violence in the south, they took detailed testimony from hundreds of black men and women attesting to klan terror. (1/?)

You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen

I wrote book reviews for a while for the WSJ well over a decade ago, and Bari Weis was my editor. One of her special tricks was to try to insert a sharp rightward slant into my essays *after* it had been copy edited, as a way of slipping her viewpoint in at the last minute.

The relevant section on perfidy from the Manual on Military Commissions.

Maximum punishment:

"Death, if the death of any person occurs as a result of the improper use of the treachery or perfidy."

Disguising yourself as a civilian in order to carry out a lethal attack is called perfidy and it’s one of the most serious of war crimes. The usual punishment is execution.

A fascinating and infuriating story about a tiny town in Alaska where this lack of civic education has had awful consequences.

The murder of Renee Good —& the way the Administration is smearing her —is reminiscent of the murder of Viola Liuzzo, a white Detroit mother killed by the KKK while driving marchers home after the Selma to Montgomery march. The FBI had an informant in the Klan car.

Instead of using informant Gary Thomas Rowe to convict the other men who murdered her, the FBI smeared Viola Liuzzo, accusing her of being lascivious & a bad mother. The documentary Home of the Brave is worth watching this weekend. These tactics (& the anger at defiant white women) have history.
