Institutional memory is very important, and we keep losing it all due to layoffs and career instability. Heck, the average career is still only 5-7 years

With proper mentorship, institutional memory can be maintained and we wouldn't have to tell jonnie blow to go fck himself every 5 years

Gaming doesn’t count as screen time. Gaming is books. Unless it’s on your phone - that is screen time. Movies are books unless they are Marvel, who produce screen time. Television is screen time.

All of you are actual narrative designers and game writers! If I wanted to know about your aspirations I'd ask about your dream house!!

Mine's a castle with a wizard tower, obviously.
Throughout a career in publishing, the commonest problem I’ve found in authors trying to break into the business is their fear of taking themselves seriously. If that’s you, try this. (Little thread follows.)
1. Remove “aspiring” or “would-be writer” from your bio. Replace it with “writer.”

Are you a writer or narrative designer attending GDC? For the first time, GDC is hosting a Narrative Portfolio Review Workshop! I've assembled a literal dream team of Senior/Lead narrative folks to review portfolios, so bring your materials!

shut up, ffs
this is not "expanding", this is grabbing people from other studios
you should elevate your current staff to the needed positions, and hire people on lower and entry levels

I've been commissioned to write a piece about games based on real places that changed peoples' perception of that place or had some kind of local impact - are you a dev who made a game like this? Or are you a player who has a story about a game that inspired you to visit somewhere? Let me know!

The "traditional" structure of TTRPGs puts an enormous amount of pressure on the GM to learn/refine & very little on the players.

Which is somehow seen as more reasonable than spreading the load of learning/contribution across the whole table.

Broader implications about community in there, y'all.

This is simply not technically possible. You cannot generate enough writing in-house to train an LLM. You cannot generate enough art in-house to train a GAN. People who think they have a model "trained on our own material" are using a base model of mass-scraped data, unknowingly or disingenuously.
Larian CEO says Divinity could have gen AI assets in it but only if the tools are trained on the studio's own data.

"If we use a GenAI model to create in-game assets, then it'll be trained on data we own."
