We should trust evidence. We should fit our models to it. We should update our prior beliefs. We should leave conclusions to be made by experts in their respective fields. We should act on their conclusions. We should take care of each other.

In March, following a months-long battle between the mayor's office and the Office of Inspector General that led to the resignation of former Inspector General Shannon Manigault and most of her governing board, whistleblowers in the OIG alleged wide-spread corruption in the city government.

America's Test Kitchen has been my go-to for years now! The recipe developers do lots of science (which you can read if you like or skip right to the recipe) and they include photos and illustrations which are really helpful. They help me understand not just what to do but why to do it.
I have developed zero recipes for NYTimes Cooking, and more than 100 for ATK, this is correct
My public service announcement for today is that America’s Test Kitchen, which is infinitely better then NYTimes Cooking, has introduced a new gift link option that has no limit on how many you can share and each link lasts 30 days.

Can't wait to find out what kind of straight, white, Christian guy this was. I'm guessing "sunglasses selfie."
Breaking news: At least three people were shot near the White House, including two National Guardsmen. Their conditions are currently unknown.

This only further convinces me that most people are absolute dogwater at being able to construct and use a Theory of Mind.

This seems like the natural hybridization of monetizing Facebook comment fights and bad-faith "debate me, bro" culture growing into its final form.
I don’t understand why Weiss thinks the desired outcome of CBS News coverage is debate.

i've heard of a "critical failure", but this is ridiculous

Honestly. Whenever I hear someone claim that Socialism doesn't work, or is somehow worse than the Capitalist system that's choking us to death, I know that I can safely disregard anything else they have to say.

Their voice becomes that of an adult in a Peanuts special, though, which is always fun.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Today is the day to repost this meme about International Men's Day, one of the most unironically wholesome memes that has ever been made.

Shoutout to all my fellow champs, chiefs, and kings. ✊

It's not a foolproof plan but every political debate from now on should be a Normal Guy competition. Ask them to describe grocery shopping in detail. Talk about what it's like to have a friend

My most woke opinion is that cities should completely ignore suburban commuters and design the city we aspire to be. They’ll either begrudgingly commute in by car, mode shift, or be replaced by others in foot traffic
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Another important point is that, once an assertion has been tested and rejected, you're failing praxis if you continue to assert it as true
The earth is not flat and was created WAY more than 6000 years ago. It is currently, rapidly warming due to man-made emissions that we're still putting out. etc
You can disagree and argue as much as you like but the point of evaluating something scientifically is that not every statement should be given equal credence because evidence matters
JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

I'm watching Batman: the Animated Series. I'm amazed at a few things. First, that it has actual *art*. Second, while it's limited in how often it uses music, every note is scene perfect. Third, the number actual actors as voices. It was way better than a Saturday morning cartoon had any right to be.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.
