One of my friends gave me a piece of word that they cut into the shape of 2025 for me to burn in my firepit and I cannot wait.

On Wednesday I closed on the sale of my childhood home that had been in my family for several generations, and today I moved most of my things out of the office I've been renting for nearly 10 years. This was not how I envisioned closing out 2025, and yet, here we are.

Today, I cleaned up the last of the things in my parents' house and took down the mezuzah that has been at the doorway since my great-grandparents owned the house. So many decades of devotion and protection as generations of my family crossed the threshold each day.

As we (finally) made our way towards NYC by car, the grief I've been carrying for months about losing my dad (and really, what's left of my immediate family) and letting go of the family home finally started to surface. I've had to shove it down for months.
